Amanda Holden leads the celebrity tributes to World Book Day

‘It’s a Tinker Bell kinda day!’ Amanda Holden gets into character as Peter Pan’s fairy sidekick while Rochelle Humes’ daughters dress as their favourite fictional figures for World Book Day

Amanda Holden led the way on Thursday morning as celebrities celebrated World Book Day across social media. 

Famed for her youthful looks, the Heart Radio presenter paid tribute to evergreen children’s character Peter Pan by dressing up as Tinker Bell. 

Sporting the character’s lime-green outfit and fairy wings, Amanda struck a pose after making her way into the radio station’s central London studio.

Here we go: Getting in on the act, co-host Jamie Theakston embraced a similar theme by dressing as Captain Hook, the antagonist from Barrie’s 1904 play and its series of bestselling books (although Alesha Dixon clearly missed the memo)

The presenter, 49, added to her look with a pair of flesh coloured tights and silver stiletto heels, while her hair was pulled into a messy bun.  

Sharing a playful snap with Instagram followers, she wrote: It’s a #Tinkerbell kinda day.’

Rochelle and Marvin Humes’ children Alaia-Mai, six, and Valentina, two, also joined in the fun by pulling on costumes dedicated to their favourite characters. 

Taking to Instagram. Rochelle, 30, posted two snaps of her daughter dressed respectively as popular children’s character Matilda and animated bunny Bing.  

Elsewhere Loose Women star Stacey Solomon ensured son Leighton celebrated World Book Day by dressing him up as one of one of English fiction’s most iconic creations.

Taking to Instagram, Stacey, 30, shared a snap of her second son clad in a Harry Potter cape and spectacles, and effect created with a special filter.

Former TOWIE star Amy Childs also joined the celebrity tributes on Thursday morning, with daughter Polly, two, getting into character as Beauty And The Beast character Belle.

Big Friendly Giant: Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams – himself a successful children’s author – shared a snap of himself as Roald Dahl character The BFG 

Captioning the shot, the 29-year old reality star admitted the celebration was all the more special because it was her oldest child’s first.  

She wrote: ‘Belle. Awww my darling princess… her first ever #worldbookday2020 how beautiful does she look… please stop growing polly.’ 

Joining in the fun, retired Olympic swimmer delighted fans by sharing a shot of daughter Summer dressed as legendary Frozen character Princess Elsa.

World Book Day is a registered charity that aims to give every child and young person a book of their own. 

It also celebrates the work of authors, illustrators, books and reading in general.

A worldwide celebration, it is honoured in over 100 countries across the world.

Captioning the image, Rebecca, 31,  admitted the four-year old – her only child with ex-husband Harry Needs – had a hard time deciding which character to choose because she’s an avid reader. 

She told followers: ‘World Book day!!! Summer dressed up on Tuesday at school and the hardest part was finding her favourite book. 

‘She loves so many and didn’t really understand when I asked her to choose just one. A princess came out on top every time though!! I’m so glad she loves books and i love reading to her every night.’ 

Meanwhile Coronation Street star Alan Halsall’s daughter Sienna-Rae, six, joined in as another famous princess – the iconic Jasmine from well-traveled folk tale Aladdin and its string of animated adaptations. 

Sharing a snap of his daughter – the 37-year old’s child with former co-star Lucy-Jo Hudson – he wrote: ‘My little princess rubbed the lamp, made a wish and flew off to school as Princess Jasmine.’

David Walliams, himself a successful children’s author, also paid tribute to the special day by sharing an old shot of himself dressed as Roald Dahl character The BFG. 

The Little Britain star originally portrayed Dahl’s famous creation for Dahlicious Dress Up Day in September 2012, during which he read extracts from the author’s famous 1982 book. 

And he fondly remembered his involvement in the celebration all things Dahl on Thursday, telling fans: Happy #WorldBookDay everyone. I hope you have as much fun dressing up as I do.’

Manchester City ace Raheem Sterling and fiancée Paige Milian also recognised the celebration by sharing snaps of their two children, Thai-Cruz and Thiago, dressed respectively as Peppa Pig character George and Peter Pan. 

Meanwhile Derby County skipper Wayne Rooney, Sterling’s former England team-mate, was also part of the fun after wife Coleen dressed their youngest son Cass as The Cat in the Hat. 

The two-year old looked adorable as he posed for a picture while dressed as author and illustrator Theodor Geisel hugely popular creation. 

Happy World Book day! The costumes were missing, but Helen Flanagan still recognised the special day with infant daughter Delilah, the younger of her two children with footballer Scott Sinclair
