‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Firefighter Spinoff Casts Miguel Sandoval

The “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff set in a Seattle firehouse has cast Miguel Sandoval in the role of Capt. Pruitt, Variety has confirmed.

Sandoval most recently appeared in the BBC America series “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.” He also played D.A. Manuel Devalos in the NBC drama “Medium” for its entire run. Eagle-eyed fans of “Grey’s” will also recognize Sandoval from a guest role he played in a Season 9 episode of the series back in 2012, though he did not play Capt. Pruitt in that episode. His other notable roles include appearances in “Jurassic Park,” “Seinfeld,” “Alias,” and “Entourage.”

He is repped by Greene & Associates and Link Entertainment.

Sandoval joins previously announced cast members Jason George and Jaina Lee Ortiz, who was previously cast in the lead role. The rest of the main characters are expected to be introduced in an episode of “Grey’s” this fall. The spinoff was ordered straight-to-series by ABC back in May. “Grey’s Anatomy” showrunner Stacy McKee will spearhead the spinoff. Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers will executive produce with McKee. Shondaland will produce with ABC Television Studios.

“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and ‘Grey’s’ signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,” said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in May.

Previously, Kate Walsh’s character, Dr. Addison Forbes, was the subject of the spinoff “Private Practice,” which aired for six seasons on ABC.
