#DisneyAdaptPercyJackson Is Trending Thanks to Fans. Will Disney Listen?

Fans of the Percy Jackson novels by Rick Riordan got the hashtag #DisneyAdaptPercyJackson trending on Twitter. Rick Riordan wrote five books in his Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Two of them were adapted into films starring Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson and Alexandra Daddario.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters were produced by 20th Century Fox and released in 2010 and 2013 respectively. Disney purchased 20th Century Fox so now owns the rights to all of the studio’s intellectual property. Fans are hoping Disney will make Percy Jackson a priority.

What is ‘Percy Jackson’ about?

Rick Riordan’s books were young adult novels based on Greek mythology. Percy (Lerman) was a modern day teenager who learns that he’s the son of Poseidon. He and his friends travel to Camp Half-Blood to train, then go on adventures like the Greek heroes before them. Medusa and the lotus flowers feature in The Lightning Thief.

Fox produced the films in the wake of the Harry Potter phenomenon. The two films they made didn’t catch on like the J.K. Rowling series, but Riordan’s series has passionate fans. They want to see Percy Jackson again and hope Disney can do it right. That hope may have foundation, according to a We Got This Covered story that reports Disney is developing an adaptation.
