According to Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger, Star Wars movies will go on “a bit of a hiatus’ following the release of Star Wars: Episode IX.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Iger discussed a bit about what Disney’s plans were following Episode IX. He mentioned that while there are movies currently in development, none have been announced and that Star Wars movies will take a bit of a break following the release of the final film in the latest trilogy this December.
“We will take a pause, some time, and reset,” Iger said, “because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Star Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus.”
While we may have to wait a bit for new Star Wars movies, such as those in development by Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones TV series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, we will still be getting plenty of Star Wars content on Disney+.
Disney will shift its focus to the new streaming service, which launches on November 12, and will be releasing all of the films and such shows as The Mandalorian, a Cassian Andor prequel series, and the return of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
This news also comes shortly after Mark Hamill spoke about “Star Wars fatigue” following a discussion about the under-performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Star Wars: Episode IX will be released in theaters on December 20, 2019, and be sure to watch the Episode IX Panel at Star Wars Celebration tomorrow, April 12, at 9am PT/12pm ET to hopefully learn a lot more about the much anticipated title.
