Looking for something to put your money on, on Melbourne Cup day?

Here are the five best bets for the day's racing at Flemington on Tuesday.

BUMBLE STAKES
Flemington, race one, No.1 CHAMPAGNE BOOM
The odds won’t be fancy but Champagne Boom impresses as a natural early runner. She overcame difficulties to win on debut at Caulfield and the unraced will need to be something special to stop her scoring again.
Suggested bet: Champagne Boom to win.

TAB APP TROPHY
Flemington, race two, No.8 MISS SISKA
Miss Siska  was caught in traffic trying to get a clear run in the straight in the stronger group 2 Tristarc Stakes at Caulfield over 1400 metres. Ideal progression to 1700 metres, the same distance she scored at in August at Caulfield.
Suggested bet: Miss Siska each way.

FLEMINGTON FLING
Flemington, race five, No.1 NOMOTHAJ
Racing down the straight is a specialised skill for sprinters and Nomonthaj has won at both attempts. He downed Saturday’s Derby day winners Sunlight and Ranier over Cup week last year and scored again when fresh in March. Resumes again and has trialled well.
Suggested bet: Nomothaj to win.

JIM BEAM STAKES
Flemington, race six, No.12 MIRETTE
Mirette was obliged to race three wide on pace without cover in the group 1 Thousand Guineas and fought remarkably well to finish little more than two lengths from the winner Amphritite. Provided that exertion hasn’t flattened her she looks well-placed down in grade despite another award draw.
Suggested bet: Mirette each way.

HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB STAKES
Flemington, race 10, No.7 OUR CROWN MISTRESS
Led all the way to win at this distance on Cup day last year and primed for a repeat third-up. Excellent run last start at Caulfield when she was always wide and pressing, only faded in the last 100 metres. Will appreciate the rise to 1400 metres where she can lead and dictate.
Suggested bet: Our Crown Mistress each way.

THE AGE QUADDIE
MELBOURNE CUP
Yucatan (11) or a raffle is the story of this year’s Cup. It is hard to imagine a better Cup trial in recent times than the Irish stayer’s demolition of the Herbert Power field at Caulfield. That said, there is more depth in the Cup field, he needs the forecast rain to be minimal, and rival jockeys will be out to make barrier 23 a minus. Include Caulfield Cup winner Best Solution (1), James Cummings’ Avilius (10) and northern hemisphere three-year-old Rostropovich (24).
My numbers: 1, 10, 11, 24.

FURPHY STAKES
Stampede (1) is a classy front runner who trounced his rivals first-up on heavy ground at Randwick. Handles all conditions but if the predicted rain arrives it only boosts his claims. Also add Weir stablemates Kiwia (7) and Take It Intern (14) and Muraaqeb (11) down in grade.
My numbers: 1, 7, 11, 14.

MSS SECURITY SPRINT
James Cummings enjoyed a Derby day treble and can win another over Cup week with Trekking (6), who was luckless at Caulfield in the race won by Brave Song (5). At their previous clash Trekking won while Brave Song did not enjoy the best of luck, and they hold the key to the race. English galloper Comican (1) went way too hard at Caulfield while First Among Equals (2) is a straight winner.
My numbers: 1, 2, 5, 6.

HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB STAKES
Our Crown Mistress (7) led all the way to win in fillies grade on Cup day last year and can repeat against the mares. She was brave on pace at Caulfield over 1200 metres and much better suited at 1400 metres where she can dictate terms. Also include Savatiano (12), Split Lip (16), Spanner Head (17) and if she backs up from a luckless run on Saturday, Resin (9).
My numbers: 7, 9, 12, 16, 17.

For a $20 outlay you would receive 6.25 per cent of a $1 dividend.
