The Chase viewers were left cringing after a contestant made a savage dig at chaser Shaun Wallace just minutes before he was revealed as the chaser.
Contestant Kieron, a 33-year-old duty manager from Newcastle, was the first contestant to up to the podium before host Bradley Walsh prepared to announce the chaser for the episode.
When asked which chaser he would like to face, Kieron blasted: “I’d like to face Shaun because he’s statistically the worst player.”
After a round of awkward laughs from the rest on the players, Bradley then left Kieron and the entire set feeling red faced as Shaun appeared as The Chaser and threw daggers at Kieron as he took his seat.
The stony-faced Chaser responded: "He's right. He's not wrong. Let's get on with this."
Kieron could be seen giggling awkwardly as viewers at home felt the tension through their screens.
“which is more painful to watch atm Shaun? contestants disrespect for you or Chelsea last night 🙁 #TheChase,” said one viewer.
A second griped: “What the HELL is this? Insult Shaun Day? #Thechase. hope Shaun annihilates them today because of that #TheCHASE”
A third added: “This smug beardy wa**er on the chase says he wants Shaun cause he's the worst then doesn't go high? Makes sense… #TheChase”
After Kieron successfully beat the Chaser and secured £5,000 for his team, Shaun claimed he'd called him a "useless Chaser".
As Bradley tried to defend Kieron's comments, Shaun retorted: "He basically implied that. Yes he did."
Kieron was joined by fellow players Angie, Lynn and Tom as the team made a bid to win thousands of pounds on the ITV gameshow.
Tom was the only player to be eliminated against Shuan, aka The Dark Destroyer, leaving the remaining trio with £41k in the bank.
Shaun continued to prove his worth as a Chaser as he hadn’t answered a single question wrong against any of the first three contestants.
After answering 13 questions correctly, Shaun caught the team with four seconds to spare, leaving them empty-handed, and even commented: "Not bad for a poor Chaser, eh Kieron?"
Fans were delighted at the victory, feeling that Shaun had taken his revenge on the team for Kieron’s earlier comment.
“Put kieron in his place Shaun ,well done, should buy you a pint for his earlier remark #thechase.” Said one viewer.
“Revenge served cold by Shaun,” said another.
