Season 2 of Ted Lasso premiered on Apple TV+ on July 23. New episodes for the second season are released weekly, and season 2 episode 3, titled “Do the Right-est Thing,” became available to stream on Aug. 6. When the episode premiered on Apple TV+, Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard on the show, revealed to fans that the first three episodes of Ted Lasso were intended to be released at the same time.
Brendan Hunt gave fans behind-the-scenes information about writing ‘Ted Lasso’
Season 1 of Ted Lasso premiered with its first three episodes on Apple TV+ on Aug. 14, 2020. Unlike the first season, Apple TV+ only released one episode of season 2 of Ted Lasso when it premiered. According to Hunt, writers for the series wrote the first three episodes thinking the episodes would be released at the same time.
“Last year when #TedLasso came out, they dropped three episodes first, then went weekly. When we were writing season 2, we carried the expectation it would go out the same way, that people would be able to watch these first three all at once.(1/3),” Hunt wrote on Twitter.
In the second tweet of the thread, he wrote, “Now it’s not like anybody’s mad that the S2 release was weekly-only from jump. The episodes all stand alone, of course; it doesn’t really matter *that* much. (2/3).”
Hunt concluded the Twitter thread by writing, “But if you felt like watching S2 eps 1-3 in one sitting, you’d be watching them as we originally imagined you would be. This has been Ted Lasso: Behind the Music. (END).”
The Apple TV+ series is renewed for a third season
Before season 2 of Ted Lasso became available to stream, Hunt was interviewed by Access Hollywood about the show’s Emmy Awards nominations and the second season. In the interview, Hunt was also asked how the writers handled writing the second season given that the Apple TV+ series is already renewed for a third season.
“Oh yeah, we really coasted,” Hunt joked with Access Hollywood. “Season 2 was like ‘Who cares? They’re bringing us back. There’s press releases, they can’t turn around now.’”
On a serious note, Hunt added, “No, it’s just great because it allows us to write, it allows us to write toward a bigger picture since we know we don’t have to like have some wacky doodle cliffhanger at the end just to make sure they want to get us back.”
What to expect from season 2 of ‘Ted Lasso’
While speaking with Access Hollywood, Hunt remained tight-lipped about the plot of the second season, but he did assure fans that the new season would live up to the show’s iconic first season.
“Same writers room, same cast, same writers room plus one person, so yeah, it’s going to be as fun or more,” Hunt said of the second season.
New episodes of Ted Lasso premiere on Apple TV+ each Friday.
