He is the latest famous face to fill the gap that Piers Morgan left behind when he was quit Good Morning Britain after an argument about Meghan Markle in March. Over the last few months, a number of stars have replaced Piers including Adil Ray and Ben Shephard, who were both popular with viewers, but now the baton has been passed to Richard Bacon.

Radio and television host Mr Bacon will be presenting alongside Charlotte Hawkins on Wednesday, and Kate Garraway on Thursday and Friday.

Fans of GMB are wondering whether he will become the permanent replacement for Piers Morgan, and not just a guest presenter.

One viewer tweeted: “I will watch @GMB regularly again as soon as Richard Bacon takes over. He is the opposite of Piers Morgan and one of the best tv presenters around today.”

But not everyone is in agreement.

Another person tweeted: “Bet he makes a pig’s ear of it.”

Mr Bacon is no amateur though, having presented Blue Peter for 18 months and then going on to host Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast, Top of the Pops, and Capital FM.

He also successfully stood in for Piers Morgan on GMB back in 2019.

In an interview with The Mirror, Mr Bacon said: “Not only am I coming home to London to guest present Good Morning Britain this month, but being back on British breakfast broadcasting feels like coming home also.

“I can’t wait to see the team again and am very much looking forward to my time on the show.”

Mr Bacon recently retweeted a comment that criticised Piers Morgan for his insensitivity towards mental health, and is openly critical of rival show GB News on his social media.

In response to a GB News video slamming ‘woke culture’, Mr Bacon wrote: “GB News under no circumstances should you drop the “Britain” from your GB title. “Great” can f**k off though.”
