Emmerdale stars Matthew Wolfenden and Isabel Hodgins may not be back on our screens until next January, it has been claimed.
The pair, who play couple David Metcalfe and Victoria Barton in the ITV soap, are thought to have clashed behind the scenes last month, while filming for the Super Stunt Week.
According to reports, they were temporarily absent from set during an enquiry by bosses, with their brief exit from the Dales explained by a surprise trip to Portugal.
An insider has now claimed that it is ‘unlikely’ they will be back on our screens before the New Year, due to the timescale the soap is filmed on.
‘It is very unlikely that Matthew and Isabel will be back on screen before Christmas,’ the source claimed to the Sun. ‘They have only just returned to the set, and as Emmerdale is filmed six weeks in advance, that puts their return date in January.
‘It was a disappointment for the bosses and scriptwriters, who were planning for them to be a major part of Emmerdale’s Christmas storylines next month.
‘But they of course understood that the appropriate enquiries needed to be made.’
It has not been made clear exactly what happened between Matthew and Isabel, with a source claiming that tempers ‘flared off camera’, with those filming feeling ‘uncomfortable’.
Soap bosses reportedly investigated the matter fully, with both Matthew and Isabel returning to filming shortly after.
An Emmerdale spokeswoman told the publication: ‘While we would never comment on individual cases, Emmerdale has robust policies in place to deal with any allegations that are brought to our attention and take the appropriate steps.
‘Neither actor has been suspended from Emmerdale.’
Their brief absence was mentioned on the soap this week, when the on-screen couple jetted off on a surprise trip to Portugal.
Paige Sandhu’s character, Meena Jutla, hit the roof at their trip, and smashed Victoria’s home up in revenge.
