Keanu refuses and uninvites Bernie to the wedding fearing his involvement in Albie’s kidnap will come to light. At the church, Sharon and Keanu are about to say ‘I do’ when Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) bursts in.

Back in The Vic, Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth), Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Sharon, Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) seek solace as they all try to process the events of the day. But none of them could have predicted what was about to happen, and in a flash, their lives are permanently changed forever as a Walford male meets his fate in The Vic.

Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) is woken by her foster child, Ashton who cries after he’s triggered by noises outside and goes to console him. There’s tension between Whitney and Zack Hudson (James Farrar), as he struggles to connect to Ashton at first.

Plus, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) and Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) excitedly discuss their upcoming embryo transfer as they prepare to take the next step towards parenthood.

Meanwhile, Suki prepares to leave Walford after having enough of Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) who attacked Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) after discovering her affair with Suki. But a surprise visitor stops Suki in her tracks. And then she receives a panicked phone call from Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota) which forces her to return home.

As the residents of Walford try to come to terms with recent events, one resident overhears something she shouldn’t and can’t resist spreading the gossip.

And against the advice of Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) and Gina Knight (Francesca Henry), Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) forges ahead with a plan to bring everyone together – but it doesn’t quite go the way she expected.

Meanwhile, Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) see in the New Year in Paris but decide to return to Walford.

Elsewhere, the teens in Albert Square decide to have a New Year’s Eve party, and one of them steals a case of beer from the Minute Mart. However, when Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walter) and Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) come to check on them, the teens are mortified to realise the stolen beer is alcohol-free.

Yolande orders the teenager to deliver church leaflets in exchange for her silence about the stolen beer. But Denzel Danes (Jaden Ladega) is alarmed when it’s suggested that there's something going on between Yolande and Pastor Clayton.

Also, Elaine is angry as Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) continues to get close to George Knight (Colin Salmon). Later, George is shocked when his parents Gloria Knight (Elizabeth Counsell) and Eddie Knight (Christopher Fairbank) arrive.

Gloria is thrilled to be reunited with Gina and Anna, but it’s tense between Eddie and his eldest granddaughter. And the situation worsens when Gloria reveals a shocking truth to George.

Zack and Whitney are devastated as they break the news to Ashton that he’s moving to a new foster home.

Whitney shows Sonia a picture of Ashton settled in his new foster family as she tries to come to terms with his premature departure. Soon Whitney has a big decision to make resulting in a heart-to-heart with Zack.
