Coronation Street fans sent into a frenzy as former ITV star joins soap

Coronation Street: Ryan leaving Weatherfield

Coronation Street fans went wild when they spotted Ryan Early on the cobbles earlier this week as he joined the cast as Darren Vance.

He’s joined as one of Dev Alahan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) business associates, but people watching couldn’t see past Ryan’s former role as PC Tom Nicholson in ITV’s Heartbeat.

Despite the 44-year-old only appearing in the drama series from 2001 until 2002, Coronation Street viewers instantly recognised him.

Taking to Twitter, @loonytoon92 said: “@RyanJPEarly Loving you already on @itvcorrie , but you’ll always be PC Tom Nicholson to me on @TvHeartbeat.”

@darrennpassey added: “Loved seeing @RyanJPEarly back on my screen making his debut in tonight’s #corrie, looking forward to seeing more Darren Vance and I can’t wait to see Stephanie Davis make her debut as Courtney Vance in Wednesday’s episode, have a feeling this storyline is going to be good.”

Another user commented: “Remember Ryan being in Heartbeat years and years ago!”

One Coronation Street fan added: “Ryan was so funny in Heartbeat… great actor.”

The newcomer is set to cause a stir in Weatherfield after he turned down Dev’s proposal of being a potential investor.

Shutting him down, due to Dev being unable to not get the capital instantly, he turned his eye to his son Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain).

Wanting the teen to become his right-hand man and help with future investments, Aadi is caught in the middle when his dad reveals he’s planning on remortgaging the house to get the cash for Darren.

Although it looks as though that’s not the only complication for Aadi as he’s set to have an affair with Darren’s wife, Courtney Vance (Steph Davis).

Could Aadi be playing with fire? Or will his rendezvous with Courtney secure his dad an investment?

Speaking about joining the soap, Ryan said: “I am so thrilled to be playing Darren Vance on Coronation Street and joining the most iconic soap.

“I grew up watching the show with my grandmother so to walk on the cobbles is such an honour.”

Actress Stephanie Davies, who is best known for playing Sinead O’Connor in Hollyoaks, echoed Darren’s excitement.

She added: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the cast of Coronation Street, playing the part of Courtney Vance.

“Growing up I have always watched and loved the show, so to be part of the biggest TV soap in Britain, which is in the hearts and homes of so many people, is an honour.”

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
