Cheat viewers threaten to boycott ITV drama over animal cruelty as cat is killed

Cheat viewers were left horrified by the series opener of the four-part ITV drama on Monday, as a cat was brutally killed.

Viewers threatened to boycott the rest of the series over the shocking scenes.

The drama starring Katherine Kelly and Molly Windsor sees a university professor, Leah, accuse her student Rose of cheating on her dissertation, leading to fatal consequences.

There was plenty going on including the kidnapping of Leah’s cat Betsy, and not to mention the murder of her husband Adam.

But it was another shock death that left viewers furious with bosses.

It was later revealed that Betsy was dead, with her found lying by the side of the road.

Viewers quickly realised Rose was likely behind the murder, and were devastated that the show could kill her off.

Taking to Twitter , fans shared their upset over the scenes before confessing they no longer wanted to watch the show.

One viewer said: “Whoa, I did not sign up to watch a four part ITV drama about a cat killer.”

Another tweeted: “Nah done with #Cheat they killed off the cat.”

A third agreed: “It’s actually sick now the amount of times these dramas just love killing cats off, every other flipping animal lives yet a cat always gets put in the show to be murdered. Disgusting, stop with constantly putting animal abuse on TV.”

Some fans were even forced to switch off during the episode because of the scenes.

One viewer wrote: “#Cheat have changed channel again can’t be doing with the cat part… That’s what #Rose had in the bag when she left.”

Cheat continues Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9pm on ITV.
