American Idol star Jimmy Levy's backpack ‘explodes’ on flight as vid shows frantic air crew try to put out blaze | The Sun

THIS is the moment cabin crew scramble to put out a fire caused by an American Idol star's backpack.

The cabin crew on a JetBlue aeroplane were left frantically pouring water onto Jimmy Levy's flaming bag as they readied for take-off at John F. Kennedy airport.



The musical artist and former American Idol star was able to capture the moment after waking up to the sensation of intense heat.

Immediately having noticed his bag had exploded and caught on fire, Jimmy starts the recording.

He captured himself desperately stomping on the fire in an attempt to stop the engulfing flames.

Shortly after, the JetBlue crew arrive to assist him.

The American Idol Season 21 winner revealed

Jimmy filmed the crew drowning the bag, and the surrounding floor with an army of bottled water.

All whilst terrified passengers on board the plane can be heard exclaiming "Oh my God" in the background of the video.

Jimmy stated: "I thought someone tried to attack me because I'm a known political figure and musician, but after investigation, it appeared to be an overheated portable charger in my backpack."

He added: "I was jolted awake by a sudden and terrifying wave of heat which was seemingly shooting towards my face."

"I immediately opened my eyes and noticed my backpack, which was initially tucked underneath my seat, now in a floating ball of fire,

"I pushed it to the ground and began stomping on it frantically to prevent the blaze from spreading.

"With the help of the flight staff and water, the fire was contained.

"However, due to the gravity of the situation, everyone was required to evacuate the plane for a thorough investigation."

A statement from JetBlue said: "On Monday, October 30, JetBlue flight 1401 with scheduled service from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) was evacuated while at the gate before takeoff due to a customer's malfunctioning electronic device or battery. 

"Our crew immediately responded and addressed the situation, and there were no requests for medical assistance. 

"Safety is our number one priority, and we are investigating the incident."

The American Idol star described his experience as " one of the scariest moments of my life."

Since his appearance on American Idol in 2020, Jimmy has shot to fame.

Known for both his music as well as his conspiracy theories, such as how many musicians dabble in witchcraft, the musician boasts over one million followers on Instagram.

The star, from Miami, Florida, said that the music industry initially led him down a very dark path before he found Christ.

In an interview with Fox News, he said: "When I was in the industry, I became very lonely, depressed, and I realized how dark it is,"

"I put a stupid tattoo on my hand of the devil,

"I started hanging out around people that would proclaim themselves as worshipers of the devil.

"I just — I didn't understand what I was getting myself into.

"That's when I started getting tormented at night by demons.

"There were times when I was smoking — I was doing a lot of things that were affecting my voice.
