I'm a Parisian makeup artist – you're piling years on with the wrong application, you need to stop contouring at 28 | The Sun

MAKEUP can help to cover up blemishes and enhance certain features when done correctly.

However, one beauty expert revealed that some popular techniques may actually be aging your look.

In her video, YouTuber Andreea Ali (@AliAndreea) shared some of the "makeup mistakes that age you unnecessarily."

While she clarified that there is nothing wrong with aging, the Parisian makeup artist explained: "When you add years on your face because of makeup that's when I have a problem."

Andreea demonstrated the dos and don'ts for youthful makeup application.

"On my left side, I decided to apply makeup in a way that ages you that some people might be guilty of," she told viewers.

The makeup pro revealed that a common mistake people make is over-contouring their face.

"I know that a lot of you will be like ‘What? After you showed us contouring so many times?’ but the reality is that contouring after a certain age will age you," Andreea explained.

She told her subscribers that youth is often associated with rounder faces.

"I remember when I was younger I had a very round face and everyone said ‘This is baby fat and once it goes away you will no longer look youthful,'" she said.

Andreea revealed that between the ages of 25 and 28, she noticed her face thinning out and looking more mature.

She explained: "Contouring is something that we all love because it gives us structure but the truth is the older you get the less you want to contour.

"You want to focus on applying products that will warm up your skin like blush high up."

Andreea told her audience that "everything that is lower will just age you."

While people often apply contour to their noses and foreheads, she explained that the cheeks are the real problem area.

She demonstrated on one side of her face, telling viewers: "I have structure, yes I agree but it’s a bit too severe I think."

Andreea continued: "On my good side I would actually not contour I would just apply a cream bronzer, which makes a big difference.

"First, it will look like skin, and second, the color and the placement make a huge difference.

"So instead of applying it as I would do with contour bronzer, I will apply it on top of the cheek."

She also added a small amount on her brow bone to lift her eyes slightly.

Andreea concluded that this application method "looks a lot more balanced, it has a lot more sweetness to it."

Her subscribers took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the advice.

"Never thought about the contouring as aging but it makes sense," wrote one viewer.
