Wayne Rooney to be appointed new DC United boss after reaching agreement… despite Coleen's tears over US move | The Sun

WAYNE ROONEY has reportedly reached an agreement to return to DC United to become their new boss.

The 36-year-old is currently out of a job since stepping down as Derby's gaffer last month following their relegation to League One.

But he is now set for a swift return to management having touched down in the States.

SunSport recently reported how the Manchester United legend was being lined up by the MLS side after they axed Hernan Losada.

And now the Athletic's Pablo Iglesias Maurer has shared a photo of Rooney in America, before confirming his new role.

Though he insisted that Rooney will not be officially announced until he has required the necessary visa.

And that won't be in time for him to be at the helm for United's upcoming clash against Columbus Crew.

He tweeted: "DC United and Wayne Rooney have agreed on terms, multiple sources tell me tonight.

"Rooney, who starred for the club as a player, will be their newest manager.

"Rooney won’t coach until his Visa is sorted, of course. Unclear to me how long that will take but it won’t be Wednesday."

Rooney spent two years at DC between 2018-2020 after arriving from Everton.

He featured in 52 games in all competitions across his two seasons where he chipped in with 25 goals.

Derby then snapped him up in January 2020 on a player-coach role, before being appointed as their full-time manager a year later.

Rooney has been on holiday in Dubai and Ibiza recently with Coleen and his family in the weeks since the 'Wagatha Christie' trial with Rebekah Vardy.

He was set for an awkward reunion with ex-England team-mate Jamie after Derby announced a pre-season friendly with Leicester.

His move back to DC may not have gone down well with wife Coleen after she revealed during her trial that she "cried every night" in America due to "homesickness".

During his first stint in the MLS, Rooney was arrested in December 2018 for "public swearing and intoxication" after taking prescribed sleeping tablets and drinking on a flight.
