A passenger on an El Al flight between Tel Aviv and Bangkok who had been trying to enjoy a sneaky cigarette in the loo triggered a mid-air emergency when he managed to set the toilet on fire.
Aircraft crew chose not to involve Thai local police in the matter as airplane crew put the fire out quickly and did not cause any damage to the plane.
However, a spokesperson from the airline said that the passenger will be facing legal action once he returns to Israel to Thailand.

The nicotine-addicted passenger had thrown his still-smouldering cigarette butt into a wastebasket, igniting several discarded paper towels.
Flight attendants were immediately alerted to the emergency by smoke detectors in the toilet.
No lasting harm was done to the aircraft, a Boeing 777-200, as aircrew managed to gain access to the toilet with fire extinguishers before the blaze had spread too far.
"The flight continued as scheduled and landed safely at the airport in Bangkok. The passenger was warned and the issue was passed on for further examination in our legal department”.

The careless passenger’s holiday in Thailand might not be as relaxing as they originally expected, bearing in mind that they have the threat of prosecution hanging over them when they get home.
There are clear rules against smoking on aircraft, but then there are also clear rules against passengers smuggling live alligators in their luggage too, and yet stunned customs officers at Munich Airport recently discovered one hidden in a suitcase belonging to an American airline passenger.
The would-be animal smuggler was attempting to take the rare reptile from Munich to Singapore when sharp-eyed security staff noticed an unusual object on the x-ray luggage scanner.
They saw what appeared to be an alligator curled into a crescent shape inside the 42-year-old man’s bag.
The officials opened the case, to find a three-foot alligator wrapped in cling-film – clearly unwell but thankfully still alive.
