MTV has reportedly decided to axe this year's Europe Music Awards because of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The event was scheduled to take place at the Paris Nord Villepinte in France on November 5, but as the conflict wages on, "safety concerns" mean it has reportedly been scrapped.
A source told Daily Mail: "It's with a heavy heart that it is being called off due to safety concerns and the ongoing conflict."
A Paramount Global spokesperson added: "Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life.

"The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning. We look forward to hosting the MTV EMAs again in November of 2024."
Despite the conflict mainly being centred in Israel and Gaza, the terror threat in France is at its highest level after a teacher was killed by a 20-year-old Chechen refugee, with a similar attack at a different school stopped by police at the last minute. Over in Brussels, Belgium, two men were shot dead by a gunman claiming to be an ISIS supporter, while on Wednesday (October 18), six airports across France were evacuated following terror threats.
The EMAs were set to be hosted in Paris for the first time in 28 years, featuring a line-up of artists including Jung Kook, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Anne-Marie and Sabrina Carpenter.
They last used Paris as a base when French president Emmanuel Macron was only 17 years old, with Jean-Paul Gaultier hosting the ceremony. Last year's event took place at the PSD Bank Dome in Duesseldorf, Germany.
The EMAs aren't the only event to be cancelled or postponed due to the ongoing crisis. The Academy of Motion Pictures Gala, due to take place in Los Angeles, has also been axed out of respect. The Academy Museum issued a statement which read: "Out of respect for the devastating conflict and loss of life happening overseas, we have made the decision to postpone the Academy Museum gala this Saturday."

The Cairo Film Festival has also been cancelled, with organisers simply explaining: "Minister of Culture Dr. Neven El-Kelany has decided to postpone the 45th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival… The new date for the festival will be determined later.”
Other events no longer going ahead include The Fashion Trust Arabia Awards, US President Joe Biden's visit to Jordan and Sam Smith's Israel concert.
