Miss Universe Australia reveals how she keeps balance over Christmas

High-intensity training, probiotics and a special salad dressing: TV presenter Laura Dundovic’s tips for staying in shape at Christmas

  • Laura Dundovic, 32, won the Miss Universe Australia beauty pageant in 2008
  • She has gone on to become a presenter, ambassador and all-round fitness fiend
  • Her plans for summer Down Under include a number of beach runs and swims
  • The Sydney-born blonde also focuses on eating ‘clean’ during the hotter months

A former Miss Universe Australia winner has revealed how she stays toned during the Christmas period – and why she swears by weights for keeping her incredible abs in check.

Laura Dundovic won the beauty pageant crown in 2008 and has gone on to become a personal trainer, psychology major and TV presenter – all of which keep her preoccupied during the week.

But that doesn’t mean the 32-year-old from Sydney slackens on her training, fitting in at least four sessions a week even with the holiday season just around the corner.

‘I do a mix of running and weights at the gym making sure I target all areas. I do a mix of strength and HIIT [High Intensity Interval Training],’ she told FEMAIL.

On days she uses a resistance band, Laura will do lateral band walks, banded squats, curtsy lunges, ankle jumping jacks, hip bridges and fire hydrants.

These exercises repeated 20 times and twice through will really fire up your glutes and stabilise your core, both of which will be on display during the warmer months.

1. Have warm lemon water first thing in the morning to alkaline your body and give your metabolism a quick start. Add apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper if you are brave enough.

2. Add cinnamon to your oats. Your liver will thank you for it.

3. Skip meat at least once a week. It’s not only good for the planet but it’s good to give your body a break from having to process so hard.

‘I love beach runs followed by a swim in summer,’ she continued.

‘I still go to the gym because I love the benefits of weights but I definitely train a lot more outdoors.’

The stunning blonde takes the time off at the end of the year to reset her body and goals, trying to eat as clean as she can.

‘There is no average day for me with work and travel but generally breakfast will be an egg on smashed avocado and rye,’ she said.

Laura then takes a Vmores supplement to help strengthen her skin, hair and nails.

‘Lunch is a chicken salad. In the afternoon I’ll have a serving of high protein natural yoghurt with some fresh strawberries, crushed walnuts and a drizzle of honey,’ she said.

Dinner is something homemade with Laura dishing up anything from Thai and Italian to Japanese and Croatian.

‘I just try to make sure I’m eating a balance across the week of everything. If tonight is a heavy dish tomorrow will be lighter. If I’ve had a hard day training it will be a bigger meal,’ she said.

This season she will be whipping up her own salad dressing in the form of olive oil, lemon juice and apple cider vinegar.

She’ll also be drinking plenty of water in between the festivities.

‘A lot of the time when we think we are hungry, we are actually thirsty so keep up the water especially on beach days,’ she said.
