Cheltenham racecourse going: Latest ground news as snow clears up on eve of Cheltenham Festival

Luckily, the sun has reemerged from its sanctuary and the forecast is a lot more positive than it was a few days ago.

With just a day to go until the start of the greatest show on turf, Simon Claisse issued an update on the state of the ground: "I have left the ground as Good to Soft (Soft in places) for the Old Course, the New Course and the Cross Country Course.

"The outlook is for showery weather over the next couple of days so I don't expect the ground conditions to change too much.

"However, on Tuesday there are very strong signals for a pretty hefty bout of rain moving through but hopefully it will have cleared by lunchtime.

"It may have changed the ground to Soft by the time the meeting kicks off."

With the wind having cancelled Wednesday's racing back in 2008, there were worries that it would again have an impact.

Claisse added: "We are always prepared throughout the winter of windy weather.

"We had a windy Saturday back in December but came through that well. The significant difference between this year's Festival and 2008 is that the wind is coming from a north-westerly direction.

We get some protection from the Malvern Hills but because the site is on a slight incline, most of the temporary structures and the track itself is protected from the hill the Grandstand is sat on.
