Rihanna and A$AP Rocky recently welcomed baby number 2, and his name was revealed for the first time!
The little boy is named Riot Rose Mayers, according to a birth certificate obtained by The Blast. The birth certificate also stated the baby was born on Aug. 1 at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, meaning the “Diamonds” singer has been keeping her baby news mum for over a month!
Can we take a minute to gush over how amazing the name Riot Rose is? For starters, it follows the family’s “R” theme — Rihanna (born Robyn Rihanna Fenty) and A$AP (whose real name is Rakim Athelston Mayers) are also parents to son RZA Athelston Mayers, 15 months, whose name (pronounced “Rizza”) is after the famous Wu-Tang rapper of the same name. So Riot Rose fits into this super cute family theme.
Riot is also a powerful name. According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, Riot means “violent civil disorder.” Like, whoa — that’s exactly the type of person we need in this world. I can see Riot growing up to make massive waves in society to bring up about much-needed change. Good call with that prophetic name, RiRi! Not to mention, A$AP recently released the song “RIOT (Rowdy Pipe’n)” with Pharrell Williams and Tyler, the Creator, which was a major hint at the name that we didn’t know!
But choosing Rose for the middle name? I’m in awe! Rose is a traditional girl’s name that means “flower,” that comes from Latin origins (“Rosa”). Rose softens that name Riot, but it’s also a flower that has a bite — those thorns are sharp, you know? It’s the perfect gender-neutral name, and while it’s unique, we aren’t surprised at all that Rihanna went this direction in choosing her baby’s moniker. It’s perfect!
