Ashley Graham Makes Breastfeeding Fashion

In her first months of motherhood, Ashley Graham has shared many of the unglamorous moments of her life, from pumping in an Uber to changing baby Isaac’s diaper in the middle of a Staples. But when Vogue asked her to participate in its “Postcards from Home” feature this month, she actually managed to turn motherhood into fashion. In her stunning photo, she is breastfeeding Isaac while standing on her aunt’s farm in Nebraska, and has basically never looked so beautiful.

“My husband, Justin, my son, and I have been out here on my aunt’s farm,” she told the magazine of the photo husband Justin Ervin took. “Being here means so much to me. This is where I would come every summer to see my family and be with my cousins. The most important thing has been remembering to ‘fear not.’ Turn your TV off, get off social media, and remember not just to think positively, but to speak it, too.”

We’d be lying if we said we weren’t jealous of the ease this photo conveys — Isaac must have a perfect latch for her to be able to stand with him like that, out on a beautiful sunny day in the country. Maybe he isn’t actually feeding in that moment, but her pose certainly seems to be implying she is, turning it into a statement of her strong connection to her son and to her new status as a mother.

And yeah, it must help to have a professional filmmaker/cinematographer like Ervin on hand to shoot such a perfect a “postcard.”

But we’re also grateful to Graham for continuing to normalize breastfeeding with this pic. She’s doing her part to make all of us feel more comfortable feeding our babies in public.

Graham has also been helping others in big and little ways while she spends time on the farm. She’s sharing her workouts with trainers on Instagram Live, for example. And though she’s far from her Brooklyn home, she partnered with nonprofit Direct Relief to get protective face masks to New York City EMS workers.

It’s an honor & privilege to be able to partner with @directrelief and to support my local NYC EMS workers (including firefighters and police offers) who are now required to wear PPE when responding to emergency calls but didn’t have enough protective equipment available to them. I was not expecting this video and my heart is so full thinking about all of the incredible work they are doing. I encourage all of you to support those who are keeping our country going; nurses, doctors, grocery store workers, delivery workers, waste management workers, police officers, firefighters, EMT workers, the list goes on and on. If you are in a position to donate PPE, I encourage you to join me. Otherwise, check in with anyone you know who is an essential worker, cook them a meal, ask them how you can help, and most importantly STAY INSIDE! Remember, small actions make big differences: just one sneaky hang out with a friend, even if you have both been following the rules, can end up causing a ripple effect and infecting so many others. Lets help our heroes keep saving the day ❤️

Speaking of staying at home, Ashley Graham is one of the celebrity moms who shared inspiring quotes about their home births.
