John Torode, 53, and Lisa Faulkner, 47, have experienced a storybook romance since meeting on BBC’s Masterchef in 2010. The couple officially got engaged on Christmas Day after a romantic proposal, sharing their adorable news with fans in January. However, the former EastEnders star confessed she has been faced with some setbacks when planning her forthcoming nuptials with the cooking expert due to hectic professional commitments. Making the surprise admission to The Sun Online while attending the Ideal Home Show at Olympia London, Lisa explained she has been “too busy” working on their TV series and an exciting new book to finalise the details of their wedding.
She said: “I’ve been so busy with writing and doing the show. Once I’ve got Easter out of the way I can start planning.”
In spite of this delay, Lisa was asked if John’s right-hand man and co-host Greg Wallace, 54, would take part in their big day.
In response, she joked: “I have no idea. You’ll have to ask John!”
Lisa first caught John’s eye when she won Series five of Celebrity Masterchef, impressing him with her culinary skills.
The couple are now set to work together again on an ITV cookery show entitled John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen.
The nine-part series will allow viewers to get a glimpse into John and Lisa’s home life, as the two will be cooking simple, tasty dishes together from the comfort of a cosy kitchen.
Giving insight into their top tips and meal ideas, the series is made for everyone, from first-timers to cooking experts.
When asked about what it’s like to embark on professional ventures with her husband-to-be, Lisa adoringly explained: “There’s no bad side to working with John.”
“He’s my best mate and it’s lovely to stand next to him and think he’s got me and I’ve got him.”
John agreed with his fiancée’s view when speaking about their project in a recent statement.
He said: “I am really thrilled and excited to be working with Lisa on our new show for ITV.
“Our Weekend Kitchen will certainly be a great reflection of us working together on food and our style and chatting about things we love to do.”
The chef added that the show is “made for Sunday morning viewing.”
Although the food aficionados enjoy cooking dinner together, Lisa also let fans into a startling secret about their nights in together.
She admitted: “We cook everything from scratch – minus a few takeaways.”
Masterchef airs Tuesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
