Candace Cameron Bure has a message straight out of Fuller House for fans — and maybe costar Lori Loughlin.
Bure made an impassioned speech about family standing by each other during “hard times” Saturday night while accepting the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award for Favorite Funny TV Show alongside her Fuller House costars.
One face noticeably absent from the group was Loughlin, who portrays Aunt Becky, and has recently been caught in the crosshairs of the college admissions scandal known as Operation Varsity Blues. Recent reports suggested Loughlin won’t return for the fifth and final season of the Netflix reboot in the wake of her arrest and involvement in the scandal.
Yet, Bure, who leads the series as D.J. Tanner-Fuller and serves as a producer, only seemed to have words of support for her now ignominious costar.
“Family sticks together no matter what,” she pledged in her acceptance speech, which she later shared on Instagram. “They stick together through the hard times. They support each other. They encourage one another. They pray for each other, and they stand by their side no matter how tough it gets. And a loving family that sticks together also celebrates the really good times together.”
Costar Jodie Sweetin then took things home by saying, “You have stuck with us for 30 years and we love you all so much. So, thank you for the Kids Choice Awards, and we promise the fifth and final season is going to be amazing.”
In the wake of Loughlin’s arrest, the actress has been dropped from many of her projects. In addition to reports that Netflix will not have her back for the final season of Fuller House, the Hallmark Channel cut ties with the actress and “stopped development of all productions that air on the Crown Media Family Network channels involving Lori Loughlin,” according to a statement. An episode of Hallmark’s When Calls the Heart featuring Loughlin was also pulled from the schedule.
Netflix and Warner Bros. Television have yet to officially comment on Loughlin’s status on Fuller House, and filming has not yet begun. Loughlin is a guest star, not a series regular on the Netflix reboot of the beloved sitcom.
Loughlin, specifically, faces charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services fraud, while she and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, are accused of paying $500,000 in bribes to classify their daughters, Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose, as recruits for the crew team at University of Southern California. The actress surrendered herself to authorities on March 13 and was later released after paying a $1 million bond.
