Worker falls to his death after box truck slams into his cherry picker

A worker fell to his death when a box truck slammed into his cherry picker in Queens early Thursday morning, police said.

The 59-year-old worker was fixing a street light when a man driving a 2018 Hino struck the arm of the cherry picker, around 2:45 a.m near Goldsmith Street and Grand Avenue in Elmhurst, causing the worker to plummet nearly 20 feet to the ground, police reported.

The unidentified worker was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst where he was pronounced dead.

The 56-year-old truck driver remained on the scene where police conducted a breathalyzer test, discovering no impairments from drugs or alcohol.
