Multiple people died in the horrific attack on worshippers – here's what happened.

What was the Texas church shooting?

During a Sunday service, on November 5 2018, ex-USAF man Devin Kelly man burst into a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

He wore a bulletproof vest and tactical-type gear as he entered the church during the late morning service.

He fired his weapon into the congregation of about 50 and stopped only to reload his gun.

Kelley attempted to flee from First Baptist Church after being reportedly caught up in a gun battle with residents of the town who began chasing him down.

The killer was found dead in his car alongside a cache of weapons after crashing the vehicle close to the border of a neighbouring county.

It is not known if he shot himself or was taken down – he made a final call to his dad, cops said, to say he had been shot.

It has since emerged the gunman was able to buy firearms after the Air Force did not to submit his record of domestic violence to a criminal database.

Police revealed during a press conference on Monday that Kelley had "expressed anger" towards Michelle Shields, the mother of his second wife Danielle, and sent her "threatening texts" right before the massacre.
