A pair of crooks were busted for looting a California fire station amid the most deadly and devastating wildfire to ever strike the state, officials said Monday.
Robert DePalma and William Erlbacher, both from Concow, were charged with vehicle theft, looting during an emergency and possession of stolen property for allegedly robbing a Cal Fire station in Butte County, where the so-called Camp Fire is raging, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Butte County Fire Department said in a statement.
They’re each being held on $250,000 bail.
The burglarized Cal Fire station was set up to help with the inferno, which has so far scorched 151,000 acres (236 square miles) and was 66 percent contained as of Monday morning.
Butte County officials arrested six people last week on suspicion of looting evacuated areas.
