Mum appeals on Facebook for Halloween trick-or-treaters to visit her son with Down's Syndrome … and the response was amazing

Daniel Wingfield, who has Down's Syndrome, loves dressing up as ghoulish characters for his favourite time of the year.

But in previous years the 26-year-old hardly got any visitors — and would be left sitting on his stairs alone with a full bowl of sweets to give to callers.

Mum Sharon Robins and other family members would take turns putting on different Halloween costumes to knock at the door so Daniel would not be left disappointed.

But this year determined Sharon and Daniel's aunt Sarah-Jane Wingfield took to social media to make Halloween 2018 one to remember.

They put an appeal on Facebook asking for trick-or-treaters to stop by to see Daniel, the Derby Telegraph reported.

After it was shared more than 150 times, more than 50 dressed-up well-wishers descended on their home in Belper, Derbs — and Daniel was delighted.

Sharon told the paper: "Daniel loves Halloween. We do up the house every year and get dressed up to get him involved.

"But he doesn't like going trick-or-treating, he likes people to come to the house.

"For the last few years there haven't been many people come round and he gets upset. He sits at the bottom of the stairs waiting for people.

"And last night people came, he was loving it. He can't talk fluently but he can say 'Happy Halloween'".

The mum-of-three had kept her surprise secret in case it didn't work.

But she said the "fantastic" response from locals left a huge smile on Daniel's face — which she said was "so nice" to see.

Daniel's entire bowl of sweets was emptied and Sharon's special party bags were snaffled up to cater for the volume of callers.

Sharon added: "Thank you to everyone for taking the time to come and see Daniel and make his night."
