Meghan Markle ‘cut ties’ with Jessica Mulroney as their friendship was already on the rocks before race row

MEGHAN Markle is said to have “cut ties” with Jessica Mulroney because their friendship was already on the rock before the race row, a report has claimed.

The pair had been friends for years, ever since they met in Canada when Mulroney, 40, introduced the then TV star, 38, to Toronto’s social set.

Mulroney and her three kids played a prominent role in Meghan’s royal wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018 when she married Prince Harry.

But Markle is said to have grown to feel that her friend was “benefitting” from her royal position, according to Page Six.

An unnamed source told the site that the white privilege row had really given Meghan the excuse she was waiting for to cut Jess off for good.”

Since the royal wedding Mulroney has appeared on Good Morning America and her own reality show I Do, Redo.

Mulroney has since been dropped from both show following her racially charged clash with lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter, with sources saying she wound up in a “flood of tears” after losing her morning show spot, a TV source said.

Meghan has since developed her own relationship with fashion houses Givenchy and Stella McCartney.

Another source told Page Six: “I don’t know what the tipping point was, but Jess has been on the outs for some time.

“Their friendship is definitely not what it was.

“And really, how can you have such a close friendship when one person is basically making a career out of the friendship?”

The current situation is said to be made more complicated as Mulroney is one of baby Archie’s godparents.

Referring to Markle, Mulroney posted a message on Instagram saying: “I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre.”

Meghan was said to be "absolutely mortified" after Mulroney allegedly threatened to sue a black influencer, and felt she can no longer be associated with her "tone-deaf" pal.

The 40-year-old became embroiled in a war of words with Exeter, who claimed Mulroney had taken offense to her 'generic call to action' asking white influencers to speak out amid the Black Lives Matter protests.

Mulroney was forced to publicly apologise after Exeter accused her of exhibiting "textbook white privilege behaviour".

"Meghan is absolutely mortified that she's been dragged into this complete mess," a pal of Markle told DailyMail.com.

"She said Jessica is in no way a racist, but the way she handled the situation (with the fashion influencer) was tone-deaf and heartbreaking."

Meghan can "no longer be associated with her," friends told the website.

The pair had been friends for a decade, bonding at a yoga class after the former actress moved to Toronto to film Suits.
