The man, who does not want to be named, had left his meagre belongings in the doorway of ShoeZone in Christchurch, New Zealand, and was devastated and near to tears after finding them soaked in wee.
Zoe, who helps run Christchurch Soup Kitchen and knows the man, said: "It's not an exaggeration to say he was devastated.
"He thinks it was someone who may have been in a pub and feels it must have been deliberate as it's obvious what the possessions were and that they belonged to someone."
She explained that the man already tries to sleep in more hidden places because he is frightened about attacks and is now considering retreating into a less visible position.
She added: "It seems to have been someone who's not in that situation who thought nothing of what they were doing and I think that's a really sad attitude.
"I know not everyone agrees with people street sleeping and some people think they should be moved on but is this the sort of thing that we want to see?
"Is this how we want to show our children how to behave? It is so upsetting to see."
Zoe explained that it was not an isolated incident and rough sleeper in the area had even been physically attacked and abused.
She said: "A minority in the community seems to think they are fair game. What happened to him is de-humanising.
"Some people believe that every street sleeper is a drug addict or an alcoholic.
"There is a very narrow minded attitude towards rough sleepers, not just in Christchurch but wherever you go."
The homeless man's possessions have now been replaced by well-wishers, with many slamming the yob as "shameful" and "humiliating" on social media.
Zoe's soup kitchen offers a wash and swap service for homeless people's sleeping bags and they're always keen to receive gifts of new sleeping bags, plus one-person tents and smaller men's clothing.
