Donald Trump states his HAIR is ‘better than most friends’ at rally

‘It may not be great but it’s better than most of my friends my age’: Donald Trump bizarrely defends his HAIR at fiery North Carolina rally as he unloads on Democrats and seeks to boost GOP support ahead of special election

  • Fox Nation hosts opened for Donald Trump’s rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina
  • He supported candidate Dan Bishop before the special house election Tuesday
  • It’s believed this contest could foreshadow 2020’s presidential election results

Donald Trump defended his hair as being ‘mine’ during a campaign rally here Monday evening, where he attacked Barack Obama, joked about having a third term and threw out random bits of information – such as claiming first lady Melania Trump told him of Diamond and Silk’s support of his candidacy and turned him on to the duo.

The president defense of his full head of locks came when he explained to the crowd the decision to change the site of his rally. Originally scheduled for the Fayetteville Regional Airport, it was moved to the Crown Expo Center, because it had a bigger capacity and the weather forecast predicted rain.

‘I was even willing to stand out in the rain and get my hair soaking wet but they said it was a little bit out of your district,’ Trump told the crowd of his original thought of where to hold the rally, which would have been outside of the 9th congressional district that is holding the special election Trump was in town to tout.

‘But I was willing to do it. I would’ve taken it. I would’ve been very proud to have done it. It would have shown it’s my real hair at least,’ he said of his willingness to be outside in potentially rainy weather.

‘It’s my hair. May not be great, but I will say it’s better than most of my friends’ who are the same age,’ he said of his mane, as the crowd laughed and cheered him on.

The unusual announcement came amid Trump’s first rally in over a month where he hoped to encourage voters to select Republican Dan Bishop for the house vote on Tuesday. The results will be considered a test of Trump’s presidential pull with voters and could offer an insight into how he will fare in the 2020 election.

‘Tomorrow is a chance to send a clear message to the America-hating left,’ he said.

But quickly the president’s focus turn back to thought of his reelection in fall next year stating: ‘That’s why we need four more years… It’s got to seed — it’s a plant. It has to grow. It has to grow those roots. That’s why 2020 is just as important. Because they will try to take it away.’

One of the president’s biggest applause of the night, however, was his dig at former President Barack Obama.

‘You finally have a president who understands I’m not supposed to be president of the world, I’m supposed to be president of the United States of America,’ he told the crowd of 5,000, who roared and applauded in response.

It was a likely reference to Obama’s high reputation on the world stage, which included being awarded the Noble Peace Prize early in his presidency.

‘Obama is more popular in Germany than Trump. He’s got to be. I’m making people pay their bills,’ Trump said, claiming he was disliked because he made NATO partners up their shares to the organization. ‘The day I’m more popular than him, I’m not doing my job. They like him more in Europe than they like trump. I think they should.’

He also got in a dig at Joe Biden, Obama’s vice president who is the front runner for the Democratic presidential nomination.

‘But after years of building up other countries, we are finally building up our country. That’s the bottom line. And the last administration with Biden and Obama at the helm, they tried to pass the worst trade deal ever proposed,’ he claimed and then touted his own USMCA trade deal with Canada and Mexico.

‘We have to get Nancy Pelosi to put it up for a vote,’ he noted.

President Trump was brought into North Carolina to help the Republican Party ward off an embarrassing defeat in Tuesday’s do-over House contest from 2018 that was rescheduled after the GOP candidate was found guilty of voter fraud.

But he spent most of the night defending his own political record and slamming his political rivals. And his focus on demonstrating his record in the Oval Office was better than Obama’s indicated the president’s eyes are looking to his re-election campaign next year.

He brought up the 2020 contest toward the end of his 90 minutes of remarks.

‘You must never forget that the 2020 election is about one thing. You. It’s true. It’s not about me. It’s about you. It’s about your family, your future, and the fate of your country,’ he said.

He also claimed his 2016 signature campaign phrase ‘Make America Great Again’ was the ‘greatest phrase in the history of politics.’

And he cautioned the crowd: ‘A vote for any Democrat in 2020 and a vote for any Democrat tomorrow in North Carolina is a vote for the rise of radical socialism and the destruction of the American dream. We are entering this campaign with the best record, the best results, the best agenda.’

Choosing to have the rally the day before Bishop was up for election, was believed to be a ‘leg-up’ to help the candidate. Crowds cheered and sported Trump 2020 signs

Besides the political red meat he threw out the crowd, he also offered random observations and thoughts – including a threat to run for a third term, arguing he looked better under less-efficient light bulbs and praising the New England Patriots football team while he was in the heart of Panther country.

‘I announced today that we’ve got the soccer world cup. That’s a big thing. Who else is going to do it? We’ve got a problem. It’s in 2026,’ Trump said.

‘I said, well, wait a minute. Under the normal rules, I’ll be out in 2024. So we may have to go for an extra term,’ he said to loud cheers and applause.

He then complained news headlines the next day would say ‘he wants an extra term.’

‘Tomorrow, you’re going to see headlines, “Trump wants another term,’” he said.

But he claimed he was only kidding: ‘No. No. I’m only kidding. But we actually have the World Cup. It’s the biggest sporting event in the world, and we got it. It’s great work.’

He then pivoted to American football: ‘The New England Patriots are great people. Brady had a pretty good game the other night, right?,’ he said in reference to the Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady.

He also defended his administration’s rollback of energy efficiency standards for lightbulbs, saying he looked ‘better’ under less-efficient bulbs.

‘I’m not a vain person…But I look better under an incandescent light than these crazy lights that are beaming down,’ he explained.

He also claimed first lady Melania Trump told him of Diamond and Silk’s support of his candidacy. The duo warmed up the crowd before Trump arrived at the rally.

‘They are incredible. Incredible people,’ he said.

He trashed the Democratic Party repeatedly throughout his speech.

Republican Dan Bishop speaks during an event at the Lee Park Church in Monroe, N.C., Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, two days before a special election for a vacant House seat putting the Republican against Democrat Dan McCready

‘Democrats are now the party of high taxes, high crime, open borders, late-term abortion, and socialism. They are socialists. The Republican party as the party of the American worker, the American family, and the American dream,’ the president claimed.

‘Democrats even want to give free health care to illegal immigrants,’ he said, a likely reference to the Medicare for All plan championed by liberal lawmakers such as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

‘And as long as I’m your president, I will never, ever let Democrats take away your health care and give it away free to people that have entered our country illegally. We can’t do that,’ he said as the crowd cheered him on.

‘It’s a tremendous incentive to come in. Democrats also want to bring in unlimited numbers of foreign refugees from overseas, all at the expense of supporting their own communities. Republicans, no matter what you do, where you are, we want people to obey our laws. We want people that are going to help our country. The Democratic Party has never been farther outside of the mainstream,’ he added.

He then claimed every major Democrat running for president supports Medicare for all even as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris said they favor letting people keep their private insurance if that is their choice.

‘Every major Democrat running for president supports a massive government takeover of health care that would raid Medicare, force private doctors out of medicine,’ he claimed.

‘They are going to take away your private health care, your private insurance,’ he warned the crowd.

He then argued people have no choice but to vote for him.

‘You know, do you ever sort of feel like you don’t even have to treat people nicely? You don’t have any choice. You have to vote for me. I can leave right now. I could say North Carolina, I’ve had it with you. I’m leaving right now. And you know what? You’ve got to go out and vote. What are you going to do? Have one of these crazy people running our country again?’ he asked.

The president spent several of the opening minutes of his rally defending his economic record. A strong U.S. economy is expected to be the center piece of Trump’s re-election campaign.

‘The unemployment rate for African Americans, just yesterday, just reached another all-time low in the history of our country,’ he said. ‘Remember I used to say what do you have to lose? Now you have the best unemployment and employment numbers.’

The president argued women, African Americans, and Hispanics have all done better economically under his presidency.

Trump also slammed China for taking advantage of the U.S. and defended his trade war with Beijing.

‘Tariffs are a beautiful thing when you know how to use them,’ he said.

Additionally, the president brought up his own re-election campaign repeatedly throughout the night.

He got in shots at Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren, using the nickname he’s given them: Pocahontas for her and Biden’s moniker ‘Sleepy Joe.’

‘I guarantee you one thing, none of these Democrats, whether it’s Pocahontas or Sleepy Joe, none of them would be able to do a thing about unless were going to make a good deal or a fair deal for our country, let’s face it, we cannot go back to a situation,’ he said.

‘2020 is just as essentially important because they will try and take it away,’ he said of his accomplishments, ‘whether it has to do for religion – our evangelicals are here tonight.

‘The other side they are not big believers in religion, I have to tell you,’ he added.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the top-ranking Democrat in Congress, is a devout Catholic. Trump rarely goes to church although first lady Melania Trump usually gets him there on Christmas and Easter.

And he threw out random observations like: ‘A lot of illegal voting going on out there.’

Tuesday’s House race is being redone after the previous Republican candidate was found guilty of voter fraud and hiring a contractor who altered absentee ballots in his favor.

Of course, he brought up his border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

‘And by the way we are building that wall,’ Trump said and the crowd promptly chanted ‘Build that wall, build that wall.’

The crowd ate up the political red meat he threw their way. They booed when he talked about the ‘fake news’ and chanted ‘four more years’ when he talked of the strong economy.

He also addressed a group of women in the front row of his rally.

‘By the way you have about 10 women in the front row. They come from North Carolina,’ the president said, noting he’s seen them before.

‘I must say they have other things to do. They look at rich as hell,’ he observed.

‘How many is this?’ he asked them of their rally attendance.

He told the crowd: ‘They said they can’t count. They said all of them except for two. That’s a hell of a lot.’

The president brought a random assortment of GOP lawmakers with him, whom he introduced, including South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham.

‘Everybody respects him and everybody likes him and I like him and we used to fight like hell, right? But not anymore. We like each other a lot and he’s a special man and he’s become a special friend,’ Trump said of the senator, referring to the rocky start of their relationship.

The president also called out House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, who flew down with him on Air Force One, and pointed out conservative Rep. Mark Meadows, who got loud cheers.

However, Republican Senator Thom Tillis of the North Carolina was booed by the crowd twice – once when he came out to speak ahead of Trump’s arrival and again when the president mentioned his presence.

Trump bragged he came to the state despite being advised not to because of the weather.

‘The weather wasn’t so great today and they said “maybe we should skip North Carolina today” and I said no thank you. No thank you,’ he said.

The only part of his trip canceled came when officials canceled his helicopter flight to view damage from Hurricane Dorian because of rain storms.

He also claimed people waiting in line for his rally were ‘soaking wet.’

‘So we have now people standing in line trying to get into the arena and I will tell you that they are soaking wet….We have a tremendous crowd,’ he said.

It did not rain in the area on Monday despite a forecast saying it might. It was raining Havelock, North Carolina, the president’s first stop, which is about 150 miles from Fayetteville.

However, it was sunny and in the 90s in Fayetteville so many people could have been wet with sweat.

Trump also claimed ‘thousands and thousands of people were waiting outside to get in.’

A few hundred people were waiting outside the arena to watch the rally on big screen TVs.

The president was there to tout the candidacy of Republican House candidate Dan Bishop, who’s running a competitive House special election on Tuesday.

Trump brought Bishop up on stage to address the crowd.

‘Mr. President we’re not tired of winning,’ Bishop said to cheers. He praised Trump as ‘the greatest fighter to occupy the White House.’

The rally then came to a temporary halt when a person in the crowd fainted. Attendees waved Make America Great Again signs over the person to get them air while waiting for medical staff to arrive.

‘I guess Dan’s speech wasn’t so good,’ Trump joked.

‘People have been standing outside two days to get in so this happens,’ he explained.

The crowd waved to the president while they waited on the rally to restart.

‘We love you,’ a person in the crowd shouted to Trump. ‘We love you Donald Trump,’ others in the crowd shouted.

‘Let’s all say a prayer for that person,’ Bishop said when the rally resumed. ‘Because that’s what we do. We pray.’

Trump praised Bishop at the end of his remarks.

‘That was a good job,’ he said and told the crowd to get out and vote Tuesday.

Trump kicked of his rally by touting Bishop’s candidacy and reassuring the crowd he has met with officials on the damage from Hurricane Dorian, adding the state would recover.

‘You can take it. You can rebuild it quickly and you’ll build it beautifully,’ he said. ‘And it’ll be better than ever.’

‘North Carolina will truly recover so fast – I know you people so well – let’s not even talk about it,’ he said.

Vice President Mike Pence introduced Trump and the two men shook hands when the president came on stage.

‘President Trump and I are here for one reason and one reason only: North Carolina and America need Dan Bishop in the United States’ Congress. He’s the right man. He is the right Dan,’ Pence said.

Pence got the crowd riled up by touting the president’s record on the economy, on the right to bear arms, and his work to clear out Washington.

‘It’s going to take at least four more years to drain that swamp,’ Pence said.

‘Drain that swamp, drain that swamp, drain that swamp,’ the crowd yelled back.

President Donald Trump spoke about a number of topics at the event including his hair, which he claimed was better than most people his age

Fox Nation hosts Diamond (left) and Silk (right), whose real names are Lynnette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson, opened the Donald Trump rally in Fayetteville, North Caroline

Fox hosts Diamond and Silk provided the warm up act to Trump’s rally, where the president touted Bishop in a House race seen as a test-run for the 2020 contest.

Trump argued, however, Tuesday’s contest isn’t a predictor for how he’ll do in the state in next year’s election.

‘No, I don’t see it as a bellwether. They always ask that question. You never talk about the fact, as an example in ’18, that we won the Senate, nobody talks about that,’ he told reporters on the South Lawn before he left for his rally.

Trump was scheduled to view damage from Hurricane Dorian before his rally but bad weather in the state kept his plans to helicopter around on the ground.

Instead he received a briefing on Air Force One.

‘I guess it was very dangerous flying conditions. I said “let’s do it anyway” and they said “Sir, we’d rather not,”’ Trump said.

He was joined by the Democratic Governor of the state, Roy Cooper.

‘The Governors have really done a fantastic job, whether Democrat or Republican,’ Trump said of the response to the storm.

While he was on his way to the rally, his son Donald Trump Jr and girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle joined the popular conservative bloggers in getting the crowd fired up ahead of the president’s appearance.

Diamond, whose real name is Lynnette Hardaway, touted President Trump’s record to the cheering crowd.

‘Since he’s been in office I have four words: Promises made, promises kept,’ she said.

She then went on a prolonged attack on Democrats, specifically targeting Kamala Harris, a contender for the 2020 Democratic nomination who released a prison reform plan earlier Monday.

‘Let me go ahead and let the left know, they don’t get to take credit for prison reform,’ she said.

She then went on to attack Harris for her record as district attorney of San Francisco and attorney general of California.

‘I heard old Kamala Harris – she’s pushing for prison reform. When she’s part of the reason we had to go ahead and have us some prison reform. She talks about children in the cages. Look how many men she locked up into cages. So if the left wants to take credit for something, they might as well take credit for the 1994 Crime Bill that Bill Clinton signed,’ she said.

She also attacked Democrats who are calling for the president’s impeachment.

‘The reason they want to impeach him is because they know they can’t beat him,’ she said as the crowd roared in response.

Eager supports cheered for President Trump at the reelection rally that was timed to coincide with an election for a seat in the House of Representatives

Donald Trump Jr praised the energy in the Crown Expo Center, which was filled to the capacity, leaving a few hundred people outside in the 90 degree heat to watch the rally on big screen televisions.

‘I love that energy. You know what that energy means? We’re going to keep on winning,’ he said.

He got in a few shots at Joe Biden, the candidate leading the polls for the Democratic nomination.

‘Their leading candidate can’t remember who he was vice president for half the time. Imagine if Donald trump made 1 per cent of the blunders Joe Biden makes on the campaign trail. The media would have a field day,’ he said as the crowd roared with laughter.

‘Biden wonders around saying the government has failed you. Well I say “no s*** Joe,”’ Don Jr added as the crowd cheered.

And he touted Republican candidate Dan Bishop, who’s running in Tuesday’s special House election.

‘Get out tomorrow and vote,’ he ordered the crowd.

‘We got enough crazy in Congress. We got put someone in there who’s actually going to fight for Donald Trump,’ the president’s eldest son said.

He also spotted one of his duck hunting buddies in the crowd and called out a hello. Then he joked he could have gotten the guy better seats.

‘I’d rather come to North Caroline in a few weeks for water fowl season but we’re hunting for House seats and it’s almost as good,’ he said.

The Trump campaign downplayed talk Tuesday’s special election would be a harbinger for the 2020 contest.

‘Regarding the special election, first, it’s important to remember that Dan Bishop, the Republican, started out the race in a hole just by the virtue of how the special election was triggered,’ Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh told DailyMail.com.

‘The fact that he is competitive in this race, and in a position to win it, I think is largely attributable to how much involvement the President has had. The President and his political team have paid attention to the race and want Dan Bishop to win,’ he added.

He argued that Tuesday’s result would have no bearing on a presidential race 14 months away.

‘This is, in the end, it’s a congressional race. It’s a localized election. And it’s also very important to remember the Donald Trump’s name is not on the ballot. People say he carried this district by 12 points last time. Yes, but that’s because he was running. He’s not on the ballot tomorrow. And so that’s very important,’ Murtaugh said.

Trump has already praised Bishop on Twitter but is coming in to close the deal with a rally at the Crown Expo Center in a state he won by four points in 2016 and needs to keep in his column for the 2020 contest.

Vice President Mike Pence warms up the crowd prior to the appearance of President Donald Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump who held a campaign rally to become reelected in 2020

Tuesday’s special election is being seen as a test of the political winds ahead of next year’s election: are they still blowing in favor of Democrats, who picked up 40 House seats last year, or are they turning toward Republicans, who have dealt with a flood of retirements from lawmakers uneasy about the political climate?

The district also houses Charlotte, where Trump will officially be proclaimed the GOP nominee in next year’s Republican National Convention.

This is Trump country and he’s made several pit stops here to keep it that way.

He held his August ‘send her back’ rally – where attendees urged him to return Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to Somalia where she was born – about 100 miles away in Greenville.

The president won this House district by 12 points in 2016 and its residents are the type of blue-collar voters who helped put him in the Oval Office.

Vice President Mike Pence spent the afternoon campaigning with Bishop, joining him for lunch at the Rockstore BBQ outside of Charlotte.

Pence ordered a BBQ sandwich. He urged the crowd to vote.

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and Pence chief of staff Marc Short ate together at a small table. Mulvaney praised the baked beans and sweet tea.

Bishop has sought to nationalize the race and emphasized his ties to the president while his Democratic opponent Dan McCready has kept his focus local. And national Democrats are keeping their efforts to help his candidacy behind the scenes.

McCready is using the same playbook many members of his party used when they flipped GOP-held House seats last year: ignore the president, talk about health care and financial issues, and stay clear of progressive ideas like ‘The Green New Deal’ and Medicare for all.

Internal polling by both parties shows a close race.

Roll Call published a poll Friday that showed McCready up by 4 points with 8 per cent of voters unsure of who they were going to vote for on Tuesday.

The poll also found Trump underwater in the district: 47 per cent approved of the job he’s doing compared to 48 per cent who disapproved.

Both parties have invested heavily and the contest has become the second-most expensive House special election in U.S. history, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, with more than $10 million in outside spending.

The special election was ordered after officials found evidence of voter fraud on the part of Republican candidate Mark Harris in the 2018 contest.

McCready led Harris by more than 7,300 votes in early- and absentee-voting but, after a Republican surge on Election Day, he trailed Harris by 905 votes.

An ensuing investigation found Harris’ campaign financed a fraud-tainted voter-turnout effort.

Harris used an independent contractor who collected unsealed absentee ballots from voters and altered them before submitting them to the post office.

Officials threw out the results and ordered a second election.

Harris did not run again citing health reasons.

Bishop replaced him after winning a crowded Republican primary.
