Footage of a woman being surrounded by a crowd after she was allegedly caught shoplifting has gone viral online.

The video shows the ‘gypsy’ woman denying stealing the goods after being accused by Sports Direct employees outside the store in Greater Manchester.

Throngs of people can be heard shouting ‘Don’t let her get away it!’ as they gather around the woman as the two employees attempt to search the bags in her pushchair.

A quick-thinking schoolboy can be seen putting the brake on her pram, which allegedly contained the goods, so she is unable to flee with them. 

The video, which was posted to Facebook, begins by showing two Sports Direct employees – one man and one woman – cornering the woman who has allegedly ‘shoplifted’.

The employees search the woman’s pram to check for stolen goods.

When the female Sports Direct employee finds the items, she shouts at her ‘Oh yeah it’s there! You’re going back’ and points to the store. 

As the ‘shoplifter’ yells and tries to leave, the female employee tells her that ‘the police are coming’. 

The ‘shoplifter’ yells ‘No!’ and then attempts to run away with her pram – but the pair of employees manage to stop her again.

The crowds of people shout in support of employees and huddle around them. One man can be heard shouting: ‘Don’t let her get away with it man! Call the Police!’     


A schoolboy was commended by social media commentators after he was seen in the footage pushing the brake on the pram to stop her from getting away

In an attempt to negotiate, the woman hands over a bag of stolen goods to the female Sports Direct employee as the crowd continue huddling around her.

The footage has racked up over 160,000 views since it was uploaded online yesterday.

Social media users praised the efforts of the civilians to stop the alleged robber – particularly the resourceful schoolboy who locked the pram wheel.

Mark Waddington said ‘The kid locking the pram wheel is the real hero here. He’ll go far. Good kid.’

Kayleigh Milloy also commended the child: ‘Shout out to the little lad putting the brakes on her pram’. Whilst Kelly Jordan wrote ‘Bless that little boy who put on the brake so she couldn’t get away’.
