When is Genius Guide to Britain on BBC Two?

Genius Guide to Britain continues tonight (Monday, October 8) at 8pm.

The series will consist of four parts and both young geniuses have expressed how excited they are about the new show.

Londoner Seagull said: “The beauty of our friendship is that we’re both driven by the same thing: a curiosity about the world.

“We obviously faced off on University Challenge. Eric defeated me… but I’ve forgiven him now!”

Who are Eric Monkman and Bobby Seagull?

Eric Monkman and Bobby Seagull were contestants on University Challenge last year.

They were both students at Cambridge University but from different colleges.

Monkman, originally from Oakville, Canada, captained the Wolfson College team while Seagull, a maths whiz, represented Emmanuel College.

The nation were taken with Monkman’s seemingly endless knowledge, his blue jumper, and his slightly off-key demeanour.

In fact, the obsession with him was dubbed “Monkmania”.

Meanwhile, Seagull, from Newham, east London, is now a City trader but says he wants to use his newfound celebrity to inspire young people to get involved in maths.

Despite the pair being rivals they are now firm friends.

What’s the show about?

Both brainboxes will travel around the country “in search of Britain’s most remarkable scientific and technological achievements” for the four-part series.

Examples of such achievements include the science of the deep-fried Mars bar and the world’s smallest museum – which is located inside a phone booth.

Speaking about the new show, Monkman said: “Curiosity is an approach to life.

“The more you know, the more you realise you don’t know.

“My admiration for British genius is one of the major factors that led me to study in the United Kingdom. I am fortunate to now have the opportunity to see more of your beautiful country.

“I look forward to learning more about Britain’s scientific discoveries and to sharing what I learn with everyone.”
