Britain’s ‘spookiest house’ with 50 tombstones in the front garden on sale for £450k – The Sun

A SPOOKY house with a graveyard in the front garden is up for sale for £450,000.

The converted 19th century church in North Lopham, Norfolk has never been lived in.

But buyers have been scared off from snapping up the Grade II listed building due to 50 terrifying tombstones in the garden.

Bedfords Estate Agents has been forced to slash the price of the recently-renovated building by nearly a third after first putting it up for sale in spring 2018.

Emmerson Dutton of Bedfords Estate Agents said: “It wouldn’t bother me, but it clearly does many others.

“It’s such a nice house, they have done an amazing job on it. But the graves are the problem, rightly or wrongly.”

In total the property hosts 50 headstones, many of which still contain their original inscriptions. Thirty six of these stand proud in the garden whilst a further 14 are propped up against the building.

However, any potential owners thinking they can remove the tombstones are in for a bit of a shock. The chilling memorials are owned by the Church of England and are under protection for the next 999 years.

Despite the spooky grave the building has been recently renovated into a modern family home, playing host to three new bedrooms, an open plan kitchen and a spacious garden.

And Emmerson believes any potential buyers will be getting a bargain, if they can look past the spooky additions.

He said: “If someone does have the inclination to look at it, regardless of the graves, they will get a really good value house.”

“I think come the new year, someone will discover it and see a beautifully renovated chapel conversion.”
