Asda is going to sell a vegan cheeseboard this Christmas

Eating way too much cheese on crackers is undeniably one of the best things about Christmas.

Now vegans won’t have to miss out on the fun, as Asda is going to sell a non-dairy cheeseboard when the festive season rolls round.

The board has three different types of plant-based cheese: a traditional cheddar style vegan cheese, a garlic and chive cheddar and a Wensleydale and cranberry alternative.

The cheeseboard costs £5, which is a bit of a bargain to be honest. However, it won’t be on sale until 22 November, when the cheeseboard season really gets going.

It’s not the first festive vegan offering from Asda. Last year, vegan mince pies were introduced , with the chain predicting it would sell a whopping 18 million of them.

Veganism has grown enormously in the UK. According to a survey conducted in April, 3.5 million Brits now eat a vegan diet – that’s seven per cent of the population who are shunning animal products.

There are all kinds of vegan cheese out there these days, like cashew nut milk Camembert and plant-based blue.

Back in May, ASDA’s product development manager James Waters stated in a press release : "We know how big the free from and vegan markets have become and understand that there is a demand for more free from and vegan products”.

It’s not the only supermarket to try cater for vegans this Christmas.

Tesco announced it will be selling a festive cauliflower Wellington as an alternative to the traditional beef.

It features a whole turmeric-spiced cauliflower with a butternut squash and minced mushroom stuffing – flavoured with red wine, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon, then wrapped in a flaky golden puff pastry. Sounds pretty good.

The supermarket will also offer a vegan butternut squash starter as an additional plant-based alternative.
