Janette joined the professional cast of Strictly Come Dancing alongside her partner, Aljaz Skorjanec, in 2013. This role came after she starred in the US dancing competition, So You Think You Can Dance but she has become better known in the UK for being one of the most spirited cast members on the BBC dance show. However, the latest season is the first she won’t be appearing in for eight years, so here is everything you need to know about her departure from the main show.

Why has Janette Manrara left the Strictly Come Dancing professionals?

After she made it to the final with singer HRVY last season, Janette has decided to pursue a new role within the Strictly Universe.

Instead of being a professional dancer, she will act as one of the hosts on the spin-off programme, It Takes Two.

Earlier this year, television presenter and host of the show for 10 years, Zoe Ball, announced she was quitting her role.

This sparked mass speculation as to who could replace her but no one considered a professional dancer could take the spot.

Hence when it was revealed in June on The One Show Janette was joining the presenting team, many were left shocked.

In a statement released by the BBC at the time, Janette said: “It’s a dream come true to become part of the It Takes Two team!

“Although it’s impossible to fill in the shoes of a legend like Zoe Ball, I hope to make her and all of the Strictly fans proud.

“I will miss dancing on that iconic dance floor weekly, but forever grateful to continue being a part of the Strictly Come Dancing family!”

It seems bosses had their eye on Janette as a potential replacement as executive producer of It Takes Two Eve Winstanley detailed what producers were thinking behind the scenes.

Eve explained: “We are so excited that Janette will be Cha Cha Cha-ing her way into the It Takes Two family.

“Her love and passion for all things dance will bring something new and fresh to the show,” the show boss said with Commissioning Editor for BBC Daytime and Early Peak, Alex McLeod, stating there was no one else he could think of to take on the role.

“We know that our viewers are avid fans of Strictly and cannot get enough expert advice, backstage gossip and dancing tips and tricks.

“I can’t think of anyone better than Janette to do this. I am so excited that she is joining our It Takes Two family.”

The professional dancer almost didn’t take on the role when it was offered to her because she wanted to continue dancing.

Speaking in an interview with Notebook, she explained: “I thought about not being able to dance and almost said no.

“Then I thought, ‘This is too good to be true,'” she added and having been a dream of hers, the dancer couldn’t turn down the opportunity.

Due to her departure from the professional cast, four newcomers have been drafted in to compete and they are Jowita Przystal, Kai Widdrington, Nikita Kuzmin and Cameron Lombard.

When will Janette Manrara first host It Takes Two?

Janette won’t be the only host of It Takes Two as she sharing the role with Zoe’s former co-star, Rylan Clark-Neal.

With the main show’s first live show airing this weekend, the first episode of this year’s spin-off show will take place on Monday, September 27, 2021.

As Janette is slipping into Zoe’s shoes, it is likely she will be hosting the first half of the week’s programmes.

Rylan will finish off the week hosting the show as it’s very rare two presenters host the show each day.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
