Who is James Purefoy?

James, 54, was born June 3, 1964, and is an English actor.

He was born in Somerset and attended Sherborne School before training at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

James is best known for his role as Mark Antony in the HBO TV series Rome.

He is also known for playing former college professor-turned-serial-killer Joe Carroll in the series The Following.

What role does James play in Fisherman's Friends?

On March 15, 2019, James' latest film Fisherman's Friends was released in UK cinemas.

The film is about ten fishermen from Cornwall who are signed by Universal Records and achieve a top ten hit with their debut album of Sea Shanties.

James plays Jim, one of the singing fishermen.

The film is based on a true story.

What other films has James starred in?

James was screen tested for the role of James Bond in 1995 for GoldenEye, but ultimately lost the role to Pierce Brosnan.

But he still managed to forge a successful career as an actor.

  • Resident Evil (2002) – A special military unit fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident. Spence Parks, played by James, is one of the two main antagonists.
  • John Carter (2012) – Transported to Barsoom, a Civil War vet discovers a barren planet seemingly inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Woola and a princess in desperate need of a saviour. James plays one of John's best friends Kantos Kan.
  • Vanity Fair (2004) – Growing up poor in London, Becky Sharp defies her poverty-stricken background and ascends the social ladder alongside her best friend, Amelia. James plays Rawdon Crawley, who weds Becky.

Is James married?

James married documentary director and producer Jessica Adams in Somerset in July 2014.

The couple have three children Rose (born 2012) and twin sons, Ned and Kit, (born 2017).

He also has son Joseph (born 1997) from his previous relationship with actress Holly Aird.
