The “Lay with Me” singer also talks about why she and Phantoms decided to make their music video a “High School Musical” homage.
You only turn 30 once, and Vanessa Hudgens is planning to do so in style, with a "Lord of the Rings"-themed birthday party.
During her visit to "The Tonight Show" on Monday night, she shared some of the details with Jimmy Fallon, who absolutely loved the idea. We have to say, though, if she really wanted to get a reaction from a late-night she should have booked an appearance with Tolken-superfan Stephen Colbert.
"It feels monumentous," Hudgens said of turning 30, and yes she totally used a made-up word to express just how big it is.
"I had this fantasy of having a ‘Lord of the Rings’-themed party where I’m like Galadriel with the white hair and I’m floating into my birthday party and there’s a harpist playing and there’s like elves anywhere," Vanessa said with a giggly smile.
Fallon immediately asked her if she was going to have any of the original cast from the early 2000s film trilogy in attendance.
"No, that’d be too cool," she said sadly. "I’m not that cool."
But Jimmy wasn’t ready to throw in the towel, suggesting Frodo Baggins himself, Elijah Wood. Even though Vanessa doesn’t know him, Jimmy was confident that a public plea to the actor just might work, at least until Vanessa said, " You have to come in costume."
"Now he’s definitely not coming," Jimmy laughed.
Later in their chat, Jimmy brought out a side-by-side comparison shot of Vanessa from "High School Musical" and the opening shot of her recent music video with Phantoms for "Lay With Me." Vanessa joked that when she showed it to her "HSM" costar Ashley Tisdale, Ashley thought it was just a shot from the film.
But Vanessa and the guys from Phantoms intentionally made this video a nod to their roots in Disney and Nickelodeon children’s entertainment. That said, Vanessa wasn’t made at the side-by-side, either, noting that she thinks she’s aging pretty well so far.
