Two Strictly Come Dancing professionals injured in training accident

The injuries keep piling up on Strictly Come Dancing, with two professionals now having got hurt while training for the BBC One show.

News broke earlier this week that Stacey Dooley had to be hospitalised for a bruised rib while rehearsing, while Danny John-Jules actually collapsed while training with his professional partner Amy Dowden in the run-up to the Halloween show.

However, Zoe Ball revealed during an interview with Danny and Amy on spin-off show It Takes Two on Thursday (November 1) that Amy was involved in a behind-the-scenes mishap with another professional that was kept quiet until now.

“In the pro rehearsals, unfortunately Gorka [Márquez] and I collided,” Amy revealed. “It was just an accident that happened. My heel went right into the top of Gorka’s foot, and Gorka was left with a nasty bruise too!”

That incident twisted Amy’s ankle ahead of the Halloween show and is still hampering her in rehearsals, with the professional admitting that some huge adjustments had to be made to their American Smooth last Saturday.

“We didn’t get to rehearse together at all on the Friday [last week],” she explained. “You know what? I actually think it helped Danny because going in and out of the lift, he was really caring. He was brilliant.”

“I was forced to take command,” Danny joked.

Although the professionals are both far from 100% a week after their collision, Danny and Amy do plan to move ahead with their Quickstep to ‘Freedom’ by Pharrell Williams on Saturday night.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One.
