The Yorkshire Vet is a Channel 5 documentary series which began in 2015 and follows veterinarians Peter Wright and Julian Norton as they tend to animals in need at their practices in North Yorkshire. Julian, who has been a staple on the programme since the beginning, has spoken out in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk about whether he has any plans leaving.
Speaking about his future on The Yorkshire Vet, Julian admitted he will remain on the show “as long as it’s still fun”.
He explained: “I don’t know, I mean we’ll see. There is talk of the series beyond series 13.
“I guess I think as long as it’s still fun to be involved with and as long as it’s not too time-consuming and too onerous and the stress is not too much.”
Julian, who began his career as a junior partner at Skeldale Veterinary Practice, decided to leave following a merger with Medivet.
The vet worked at the Yorkshire practice for more than two decades before he made his departure.
Skeldale had been the original practice of world-famous vet James Herriot author of All Creatures Great and Small author Alf Wight.
However, Julian felt it was the right time to go as the practice was merged with a national veterinarian organisation.
He went on to open his own independent vet practice in Wetherby, Yorkshire.
Discussing his decision to leave, Julian continued: “I left Skeldale after working there for most of my working career.
“And then the practice was taken over, which wasn’t really part of my plan, or intention.
“I didn’t really want to be working with that kind of corporate style structure.
“So, I left at that point and worked elsewhere but recently I’ve opened two practices.”

A new series of the Yorkshire Vet begins on Tuesday night, and despite being renewed for a new series, Julian believes the show has a shelf-life.
The vet believes viewers will “get fed up” with watching him and Peter.
“Things change over time,” he explained. “I mean I never ever thought that we would be doing a 13th series, which is the series that’s coming on in the autumn.
“I don’t know really. I imagine at some point, the channel will say, ‘you know enough is enough,’ or the viewers will eventually get fed up with watching us do our stuff.”
The vet added: “Other people will come along. There are plenty of vets around in Yorkshire and in other parts of the country that are much more skilful than me and much more eloquent and probably much better looking as well.”
Julian may be used to working with animals on a daily basis but filming the series with them posed a few problems.
“We have to have some kind of control over our patients to some extent because we wouldn’t be able to examine it,” he explained.
“We wouldn’t be able to inject it and we wouldn’t be able to find out what’s wrong with it.
“So, there’s always an element of control, which is the nature of the job, but it doesn’t always go to plan.
“Animals escape and sometimes we get kicked. Sometimes we get bitten and sometimes rabbits jump off the table.”
The Yorkshire Vet airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 5.
