The fantasy show starring a sword-swinging Henry Cavill, wrapped its second season at the end of 2021. The pandemic heavily impacted its release, but it did not disappoint, and fans will be happy to hear season three of The Witcher is at its early stage of production.

Based on the popular books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher has also had success as a comic book, multiple video games and now the smash-hit Netflix show.

Season two ended with Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allen) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) stepping through a portal to take them on their next journey.

Fans might not have to wait too long as a tease of season three has been posted on social media.

Producer and screenwriter Lauren Hissrich shared a photo on Instagram to reveal plans to viewers.

Posting a picture to the photo and video app, she showed her 77,900 followers that season three location scouting had begun.

Accompanying a photo of several team members exploring an area, she said: “The first scout of #TheWitcher S3!.”

Fans wanted to see more, with the post receiving thousands of likes and hundreds of comments.

@cherry_anne_27 said: “How exciting. Happy location hunting and cant wait for season 3. To you and all your coworkers, stay safe so you can hurry up and film this @laurenhissrich.”

With much of the first and second season filmed in Europe, this image had a location tag of London, teasing that it could be completely filmed in Europe, or at least some scenes will.

“Season 3 I hope we see the love of Yennefer and Geralt @laurenhissrich,” @zeynodogan2021 added.

Although supportive Witcher fans shared their excitement for the next instalment, a diehard fan cohort of The Witcher brand chimed in to say how they did not enjoy the show.

A disheartened @gayraltofrivia said: “I really hope y’all actually stick to a book this time. any book, at this point.”

@richiemama agreeing with one fan’s disapproval contributed: “@majus.mcfly yeah they ruined the story. Season 1 had problems but I still thought it was ok but season 2 was a big pile of horsesh**e. Absolute garbage.”

Lauren wasn’t the only creative involved in the show who gave viewers a sneak peek of what they could expect in season three.

Executive producer Steve Gaub who has also worked on TRON: Legacy and Terminator Salvation, posted a series of images over several days.

His most recent post on January 30 said: “Something wicked this way comes in season 3 of @witchernetflix? Location scouting adventures continue.”

With no concrete date set for when filming will begin for the next chapter or when it will be released, fans will have to keep their eyes on the show’s official channels for any further teasers.

However, the spin-off show The Witcher: Blood Origin is teased to be released this year.

This new series is set 1,300 years before Geralt starts his adventures.

The storyline will tackle the creation of the first Witcher and the Conjunction of the Spheres.

The Witcher seasons 1-2 are available to stream on Netflix.
