The Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies premieres and fans think it could be the new Shadowhunters

After premiering on The CW last night (October 25), The Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies is already being compared to cult TV show Shadowhunters.

Taking fans through the doors of the fantastical Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted, the first episode introduced two new characters to the educational institution: a werewolf named Rafael and his foster brother Landon (who some may recognise from The Originals’ final season).

With 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson back in the picture and a destructive magical dagger creating some of the episode’s biggest drama, viewers already seem to be hooked.

Social media is currently jammed with excited reactions, although some fans weren’t initially sure whether it’d live up to expectations.

Meanwhile, Shadowhunters fans might be interested to read what this viewer recognised about the new supernatural show.

So could this be a new binge-hub for tearful fans of Shadowhunters – which will end with the forthcoming third season?

Back in August, the terrible news was confirmed by one of the series’ producers, as he wrote:

“To our loyal and vocal fans who put so much behind making the show the popular series that it became, we extend our deepest thanks for your enduring support. The outpouring from the fandom from the start, and since the announcement of the show’s cancellation has indelibly touched all of us involved. We’re so grateful to have gone on this journey with you.

“Regrettably for all involved, Shadowhunters must come to an end. While we are trying to figure out new ways and new incarnations in which to bring the Shadow World to fans worldwide, we are sad to say that after many efforts by all parties involved, it’s not possible for this version of Shadowhunters to continue.”

Legacies still hasn’t found a UK home, but will continue on The CW next week.
