Suicide Squad director David Ayer says his cut was "very different" from the one we saw

Suicide Squad is the movie that just won’t go away and now director David Ayer has revealed that his original cut was “very different” to what we ended up seeing.

Earlier this year, Ayer explained his original storyline for Jared Leto’s take on the Joker which would have seen him make a deal with Enchantress, only for Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) to stand up to him and refuse to betray her squad.

And now it seems that Harley Quinn’s arc was also changed a lot between the original edit Ayer created and what was eventually released.

“Harley’s arc was vastly simplified. It’s fun to play ‘gotcha’ but remember released film was very different from original assembly,” he replied to a fan on Twitter who questioned an earlier response from Ayer where he suggested it was impossible for Harley to have them be her friends.

Last year, Ayer admitted that he would do things differently if he was given the chance to make Suicide Squad again.

“I’d make Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story. I have to take the good and bad and learn from it,” he explained, adding there isn’t a “secret edit” of the movie with added Joker scenes.

Suicide Squad 2 is currently in the works and the co-writer Todd Stashwick recently offered an update on the sequel, saying that they had a completed draft he was “really proud” of.
