Strictly Come Dancing's Stacey Dooley to front a brand new documentary series

Stacey Dooley is about to light up the dancefloor as part of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing celebrity line-up, but she’s best known for her award-winning documentaries.

She’ll be returning to her day job in 2019, with a brand new documentary series on channel W.

Titled Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over, the six-part series of 60 minute episodes will see her living with a range of different and “extraordinary” people to paint a portrait of life in Britain.

UKTV’s commissioning editor Natalie Rose teased that some of the characters she meets might be less than savoury.

She said in a statement: “We are so thrilled to be working with Stacey on this series. The idea that she will be crossing the domestic thresholds of some of Britain’s most surprising, and in some cases morally ambiguous families is exciting enough, but living nose-to-nose with them for three days really ups the stakes.

“There’s just something incredibly revealing about that level of intimacy, and how it informs, challenges, and even confuses what we think we know.

“With her formidable pedigree, distinctive journalism and effortless charm, there really is no better person to take us on this journey than Stacey.”

Dooley, who was previously held by Japanese police while filming, recently hit out at at tabloid comment that questioned her place on Strictly and called her a “D-Lister”.

“You know what I LOVE to do for a living? As a grown man? Slate people I don’t know.

“Ps. Next time you write about me, it’s ‘Stacey Dooley MBE’ …k?”

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in the autumn.
