Strictly Come Dancing reveals Katie Piper as first celebrity contestant of 2018

Strictly Come Dancing has revealed its first celebrity contestant for the 2018 series.

Philanthropist, TV presenter and ex-model Katie Piper will be waltzing on to the dance floor when the show returns to the BBC in Autumn.

The announcement was made on BBC Breakfast this morning (August 13) with Katie saying: “I’ve known for a while and it’s been really hard to keep it a secret.”

She also added: “I feel so privileged and excited to be part of my favourite show on TV. I already know how much of an amazing experience it will be for me and I can’t wait to show my girls some of my new dance moves.

“I’m nervous to put on my dancing shoes but can’t wait to learn a new skill and have the Strictly tan and makeover!”

Fans of the show have been trying to predict who will be in the line-up after hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman released a video containing many cheese-based clues.

Thankfully, there won’t be long to wait with the next announcement being made on The One Show tonight.

This series will be the first since the show began in 2004 that professional dancer Brendan Cole won’t be taking part in.

He revealed earlier this year that the BBC had decided not to renew his contract.

Narrator Alan Dedicoat hinted that Neil Jones will instead be joining the pro line-up. Katya Jones’ husband has been part of the professional team for the last few years, but so far hasn’t been partnered with a celebrity.

Three new pros will also be joining Strictly this year, with Graziano Di Prima, Johannes Radebe and Luba Mushtuk being added to the show.

The dancers have already started rehearsals, giving viewers a glimpse of what to expect when they shared a sneak-peek picture recently.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in the autumn.
