Star Wars' Mark Hamill has an amazing idea for replacing Donald Trump's trashed Hollywood star

On Monday night, the West Hollywood city council voted to remove the star of Donald Trump on the Walk of Fame, just over a week after it was vandalised with a pickaxe.

While the vote was largely symbolic and will not lead to the immediate removal of Trump’s star, Mark Hamill already has an idea for what to replace it with.

The Star Wars actor took to Twitter to nominate his late, great co-star Carrie Fisher to fill the spot.

“How about replacing it with someone who really earned it? Like @carrieffisher,” Hamill tweeted, in response to an article about the city council vote.

Despite her long career in movies, Fisher never received a star on the Walk of Fame before her untimely death in December 2016.

Currently, someone has to be nominated to receive a star, then a fee has to be paid to have it created.

After the vote on the removal of Trump’s star, Mayor of West Hollywood John Duran told CNN: “The West Hollywood City Council did not pass the resolution because Donald Trump is a conservative or a Republican.

“Earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is an honour. When one belittles and attacks minorities, immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities or women – the honour no longer exists.”

Duran added that the council had never previously asked for a star to be removed, “but the circumstances compelled us to make an exception to the rule”.

Despite the vote, The West Hollywood City Council does not actually have the power to remove Trump’s star. Instead, it’s up to The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, who have said Trump’s star will stay for now.

“Once we receive a communication from the City of West Hollywood, it will be referred to our Executive Committee for consideration at their next meeting,” President Leron Gubler told CNN.

“As of now, there are no plans to remove any stars from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The West Hollywood City Council does not have jurisdiction over the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
