Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) is determined to do whatever it takes in Coronation Street to save Yasmeen (Shelley King), and with her having changed the locks of the house to prevent evil Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) from re-entering, one can’t help but wonder if she’s locate the secret camera the abuser has hidden in the property?
Yasmeen faces an attempted murder charge following the altercation with Geoff, — during which she lashed out and stabbed her husband amid one of his abusive tirades — and thus she’s been remanded in custody ahead of the trial.
With Yasmeen having been refused bail, there’s little anyone can do right now, so Alya decided to focus her attention on her gran’s home during the latest episode — taking advantage of the fact that Geoff is in hospital, so that she could get the locks changed — something which we imagine the abuser won’t be too pleased about.
However, with Geoff out of the house — and Alya desperate for evidence to prove that Yasmeen was a victim of coercive abuse — one can’t help but wonder if she will decide to do some digging, and therefore discover the secret camera in the process?
Viewers are well aware that the sinister man has been using the camera to watch Yasmeen’s every move, so the discovery of such a device would no doubt raise a few eyebrows — and suggest there’s more to what transpired than meets the eye.
What’s more, Geoff was able to play back footage from previous days — such as when he and Yasmeen returned from Vegas, and he checked out what Alya and Ryan (Ryan Prescott) got up to in the house during his absence.
The ability to watch back footage indicates there should be recordings stored somewhere, and — if this proves to be the case — then that means there could be documented footage not only of the showdown between Yasmeen and Geoff, but also of all the previous times when he’s verbally abused her.
Alya knew full well of the abuse Yasmeen was suffering at Geoff’s hands long before anyone else did, and therefore she’s determined to do whatever she can to prove that her gran is a victim of coercive control, and the discovery of these cameras could prove instrumental in saving Yasmeen from a life behind bars.
Will Alya find the cameras?
Or will Geoff perhaps use them to spy on the young woman now that he’s been left out in the cold?
Coronation Street continues Friday 15 May at 7:30pm on ITV.
