Piers Morgan struggled to ‘hide his revulsion’ speaking to manipulative killer

Piers Morgan has revealed that he "struggled to hide his revulsion" while speaking to a manipulative serial killer who brutally murdered two young children and a woman.

The presenter spoke to Alejandro "Alex" Henriquex is serving 75 years for his crimes and maintains his innocence, saying the New York Police Department made him a "scapegoat" in their investigation.

The 57-year-old was jailed in 1992 and given three consecutive life sentences for the murders of Jessica Guzman, Shamira Bello and Lisa Ann Rodriguez, aged 10, 14 and 21 repsectively.

All three of the victims were found strangled and beaten with rocks, but Henriquez claims he has nothing to do with the murders.

Before speaking to Piers , Henriquez had never given an interview.

Asked by GMB co-host Susanna Reid about the encounter, he said: "I immersed myself in it, you’ve got to hide your own revulsion."

Piers also revealed that, before meeting him, the police briefed him on how Hernandez would try to manipulate him into believing him.

Describing him as "an incredibly fast talker", he said that he did everything the police warned he would.

He added that he didn’t believe that the serial killer was innocent but could see how some could.

In a clip from the documentary, Henriquez was seen telling Piers: "You’re not paying me for the interview, I’m not because I want to meet you.

"Let’s go back to the fact that I conned, liar, cheat, whatever you want to call me, fine. That has nothing to do with taking three innocent lives.

"My life has been destroyed, my family’s life has been destroyed and yet I’m innocent. It’s been 28 years and we tend to overlook the evidence."

The documentary, ITV’s Serial Killers with Piers Morgan, looks into the national period of mourning and outcry which took place over the death of Jessica in 1990.

Alex became the prime suspect after it emerged he was the last person to be seen with Jessica, which was unveiled by a special task forced put together by the NYPD to solve a string of murders in the Bronx, New York.

The Bronx serial killer was also known to the other two victims and is considered a suspect, but has not been charged, in three other deaths.

The other three murder victims were Heriberto Marrero, 15, his niece, Nilda Cartagena, 13, and Annette Rosario, 17.

James Fitzgerald, the FBI man who caught "the Unabomber," Theodore J. Kaczynski, worked with Piers to explore Alex’s case further, as the presenter tries to get him to confess.

But Henriquez refuses to acknowledge the crimes or show any remorse.
