Fans are eagerly awaiting the seventh season of Starz’s hit romance drama, Outlander to finally land on screens. Ahead of its premiere, the show unveiled an all-new image of a smiling Young Ian Murray (played by John Bell) from the set.

Outlander’s sixth season met its cliffhanger ending in May, with many eager to find out Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) fate.

The nurse was wrongly arrested for murder and then separated from her husband James Fraser (Sam Heughan) on her way to face trial.

However, fans could still have a long way to go as the production continues to take place in Scotland, with no potential release date in sight.

Despite this, fans weren’t left out to dry as the show released a behind-the-scenes photo of the beloved actor John Bell in costume as his character Young Ian.

Taking to Twitter, Outlander’s official account shared a photo of John who was posed with a huge smile while sitting on a rock.

The caption read: “@JohnBell’s got a smile that could melt any winter weather away. #Outlander.”

While the actor and showrunners have remained tight-lipped about young Ian’s storyline, this could point to a potential tease of what’s in store for the highlander.

The last time viewers saw him, he and Jamie were galloping towards the direction of Wilmington to try and save Claire.

Since his first appearance in season three, Young Ian has had a thirst for adventure which often found him in difficult situations.

After spending years living with his uncle Jamie, Ian decided to exchange places with Roger McKenzie (Richard Rankin) who had been captured by the mohawk tribe.

There he developed his survival skills, learned the language and grew to love the tribe, especially after falling in love with Wakyo’teyehsnonhsa or Emily (Morgan Holmstrom).

However, after being missing for the majority of season four, Ian returned to the Ridge a heartbroken man.

It was revealed, Ian was told to leave the Mowhawk tribe after a number of failed pregnancies.

They believed the man’s spirit must battle with the woman’s and overcome it, but sadly, the Mohawk tribe felt Ian’s spirit was not strong enough for a child to take root in the womb.

Therefore, he and Emily were no longer compatible and he made his way back to his family.

As the series continued, Ian came face to face with Kaheroton (Braeden Clarke), his old Mohawk best friend but was left devastated to learn he went on to marry Emily.

Having suffered a ton of betrayal and heartbreak, the smiling photo could hint at happier times to come for young Ian.

Fans are hoping season seven will kick off with the successful rescue of Claire but in true Outlander form, it’s unlikely to be a straightforward mission.

Perhaps, the young Scot will find love again, Ian had occasionally voiced his admiration for Claire and Jamie’s relationship.

Either way, fans will have to wait for the release of season seven to discover what’s in store for young Ian.

Outlander seasons 1- 6 are available on Starz in the US and available on LIONSGATE+ in the UK.
