Olivia Cooke is contracted for Ready Player One sequels – but doesn't know if they're happening

Ahead of her lead role in a new adaptation of Vanity Fair, Olivia Cooke has been dropping hints about a possible follow-up to Ready Player One.

Cooke plays Becky Sharp in ITV’s take on the William Makepeace Thackeray novel, coming to screens next month.

Digital Spy sat down with the actress to discuss her role in the series, but couldn’t resist asking her about a possible sequel to Ready Player One, the Steven Spielberg blockbuster she starred in earlier this year.

She told us: “I’ve signed my life away, so I’m contracted to sequels but I don’t know [if they’re happening]. I haven’t heard anything. We’ll see.”

Cooke played Art3mis / Samantha opposite co-lead Tye Sheridan in the Easter Egg-packed movie. It raked in almost $600 million at the worldwide box office when it was released earlier this year and received generally favourable reviews from critics.

Cooke added: “I don’t think there’s a Ready Player Two book, I don’t know if they’d want to write that first?”

So far, there is no book follow-up to the best-selling 2011 novel. However writer Ernest Cline revealed last year that he is, in fact, writing a sequel.

“I can’t talk about it too much,” Cline said.

“But there’s no better inspiration for a writer [than] to return to a world they’ve already worked on when they’re watching Steven Spielberg bring that world to life.”

Ready Player One is out now on Blu-ray and DVD.

Vanity Fair begins on Sunday, September 2 at 9pm on ITV, with episode two airing the following Monday (September 3). It will then continue on Sunday nights.
