Netflix's American Vandal season 2 is another winner based on first reviews

It sounds like American Vandal season two is far from a stinker, based on the first reviews of Netflix’s true crime spoof.

After investigating who drew the dicks in season one, the second season follows documentarians Peter Maldonado (Tyler Alvarez) and Sam Ecklund (Griffin Gluck) as they go to an elite Catholic school to track down the Turd Burglar.

And it sounds like the show is another winner after the brilliant first season.

IGN

“Season two raises the bar, presents wonderfully layered and nuanced new characters, and hits you with some amazing twists and curveballs in the final two episodes. By the end, you’ll be angrily shooing people out of the room if they try to bother you while you’re watching because you won’t want to miss a beat.”

EW

“I’m not sure season two will cause as much of a stir as the first outing, but it feels like a successful attempt to franchise-ify American Vandal‘s peculiar mix of lowbrow comedy, highbrow style, and an ongoing portrait of the American high school as a clash between dueling realities, where the best truths are always fiction.”

Collider

“Well, worriers, unclench. American Vandal season two is not only more ambitious than its predecessor but shockingly darker and more inventive. It’s a season of TV that proves that poop is funny, but it is infinitely more interesting to actually give a shit.”

The Hollywood Reporter

“This second stab at the format is more ambitious and suggests something more repeatable for the future, which is admirable. The diminished mirth is either a bad sign, or just a temporary side effect of the growing process, like the Empire Strikes Back of the American Vandal franchise.”

IndieWire

“It may take a little longer to get there than last time, but this new season becomes a worthy follow-up by not only swapping out one anatomical gag for another, but by filing off some of its goofier edges for another grounded look at the other daily challenges of high school life.”

Den of Geek

“Much like season one’s lurid fascination with 27 spray painted dicks on 27 cars in the faculty parking lot, this season’s equally hyper-focused look into the world of pranking people with their own shit (or the shit of others) is the result of an incredibly well-written and -structured story.”

American Vandal season two arrives on Netflix on September 14.
